Going to the Dogs

Update on my previous entry – the football player’s wife admitted she was driving the car. That’s as far as she goes. She won’t admit hitting anyone, although there was blood on the hood of the SUV and other places. Evidently, when she hit him, he probably flew up on the hood, so it wasn’t like she didn’t know she hit someone.

Her lawyer keeps yapping about how shook up and upset she is. And I keep thinking, “Yeah, she hit someone, and left him to die without calling for help. And she’s upset????? She didn’t contact the police until over 24 hours after the accident. And she’s upset?????”

I’m sure there’s more to come on this story.

Joe and I have been watching 9/11 stories on the National Geographic channel this week. It’s difficult to believe it’s been 10 years since that horrible day. Even after all the times I’ve seen the video of the planes slamming into the World Trade Center towers, it still shocks me.

And the really sad thing is that my grandsons have almost no knowledge of that event. They were babies when it happened, so they have no personal memory. I’ve shown them pictures of 9/11, but they thought it was a movie. I guess I’ll be doing some educating the next few weeks.

I got a lot done today, the usual Saturday stuff of laundry, vacuuming, mowing the grass, and paying bills.

I took Susan and boys to Sonic, a drive in restaurant, where meals are served by people on roller skates. I drove the flower van, so we all were able to spread out and enjoy our burgers, and I had a Coney and mozzarella sticks. Oh, the bliss of artery clogging fatty foods.

Then we took our dogs, Shadow, and Susan’s puppy, Teddy, to the dog park. The dogs got to run and meet other dogs and people and swim. It was a perfect day, because that humid front finally decided to move off and cooler, dry air has filled in. It’s a little preview of fall.

And we saw lots of early fall colors in the leaves and the flowers in the dog park.

I harvested more tomatoes and peppers from my garden.

It’s cooled off for me to change into jeans and then I’m going to the cemetery. I got Ray some fall flowers. I like going on Saturday evenings, when the cemetery is quiet and not many people are there.

We have the cooler weather-now I’m just waiting for the humidity to go away. We have a Sonic here too but I’ve never gone there.

Sonic’s here, too, but I haven’t been there, either. That’s the most beautiful dog park I’ve ever seen!I remember watching the WTC go up as I waited on an elevated platform for the subway I took to high school. And I commuted through there to get to grad school. The football player’s wife and her lawyer infuriate and sadden me.

Ten years ago…almost…I remember waking up to the news of the first tower collapsing and then watched as the second one came down. Your grandsons will think that the heightened security is the way it’s always been. Nice photo.

Sonic is big in the South. Where I used to live, there were four Sonics in a five mile radius. I miss their lemonberry slushes. DQ has something similar, but it’s not quite the same. I was teaching 5th grade on Sept. 11, 2001. It was my first year of teaching. Odd to think that those kids are now in their 20s, many with babies of their own.
