Famous Spring

Our amazing non-winter continues. We had another high temperature of 40 degrees and lots of sun. Daylight hours are increasing, so it’s almost light when I go to work and light when I come here. There are only small snow piles around, otherwise we don’t see any white stuff.

Is spring here really super early?

People must think so, because when I went to walk around Como Lake, I saw people running, walking, and following dogs around on the sidewalks.

It seemed like the entire population of the Twin Cities was outside today. Even though we didn’t really have winter, it seems spring fever is as fierce as ever.

I let the dogs out this morning and Axel stayed outside until I left for my grandson’s basketball game. He loves to find a sunshine spot and just sit there, letting the sun soak in through his fur to his skin.

I’m not outside much during the week. I walk in the skyways that allow inside passage throughout downtown St Paul, so Saturday is special to me when I actually get to walk outside.

I love the fresh air filling my lungs and the feel of the sun on my face.

The strength work I’ve done with my knee as well as yoga seems to be helping as my legs don’t get sore anymore as I walk the 1.6 miles around Como.

I went to my younger grandson’s basketball game this afternoon, the later basketball game. I don’t have the patience to sit through an entire Saturday of basketball games as well as games on Sunday.

Don’t you think kids’ sports are way too organized?

Joe and I watched the special about Whitney Houston last night.

Ray LOVED Whitney Houston. I can’t tell you how many times we watched “The Bodyguard.”

Again, I ask the question, is fame worth it?

I thought about Judy Garland, another woman with a powerful voice, who ended her life almost the same way as Whitney did. Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Amy Winehouse come to mind as well.

But then there are entertainers like Madonna, Barbra Streisand, and Paul McCartney who have reached the pinnacle and they have continued their lives without too many bumps.

Well, I’m hardly famous, and I sure don’t want to be. Too much pressure. I’m happy where I’m at right now.

Kind of.

If Ray was here, too, well, that would be better than being the most famous person in the world.

Ironically, Whitney Houston had been planning a remake of Judy Garland’s final film “I Could Go On Singing”http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/02/16/before-her-death-whitney-houston-hoped-to-remake-judy-garlands-final-film/I agree with you about kids’ sports. I think the value of true play has been way under-appreciated.Beautiful, poignant photo.

Whitney is one sad story. I think it is about taking drugs. Drugs ruin anyone’s life if not stopped. I liked the photo.

ryn I always enjoyed Ray’s enjoyment of my diary. I miss him knowing what I was talking about. Your cemetery photos are very moving – the fact that you keep taking them and showing them to us, their beauty and significance. Dogs do love sunshine, don’t they?

I’d like to walk around Como with you. Maybe someday.
