Deck the Halls

What a dreary drizzly day it was. Today was the definition of November, brown, dull, and wet. But, at least, there wasn’t any snow.

It was gorgeous yesterday, highs in the 50s, cloudy, but it was very nice. Nice enough to wear just a hoodie outside while Frank and I were putting up the Christmas lights.

I told Frank that a good definition of love is when two people are working on a project and there are no heated words. We worked steadily together with me explaining to him how I do the lights. This is the first year I’ve used LED lights, and they’re gorgeous. They have an interesting glow to them.

One of my deer died from last winter. I had bought a new deer, but when Frank and I finally wrestled that critter together, only half the lights would turn on. We tried a few things, but nothing made it any better, so Frank boxed it up and I found the receipt, and we took the wayward deer and some other stuff back to Menard’s for credit.

So the outside lights are up and they look beautiful!

After getting the housework done, I took advantage of this very dark day and used the power of the winter solstice to light it up a bit. I got out the Christmas decorations, the figures and the little Christmas trees, and began to deck the halls.

It didn’t take me too long. Everything found a place and now the house looks festive minus the tree. That’s next weekend.

While I was pulling stuff out, I also separated out stuff to be donated to Goodwill. I have way too much Christmas stuff, and I’m tired of displaying it even when I don’t like some of the decorations. Well, into the box they went, and later we’ll haul them off to Goodwill. It’s nice to lighten up and thin out my Christmas hoard.

Frank has never done any of this Christmas stuff as he’s lived a life of constantly being on the go. He was totally fascinated as I proceeded to decorate the house. Occasionally I’d show him some Christmas thing that had memories for me. Christmas pasts are just steeped in memories, aren’t they?

The house is now decked in its Christmas finery, and the tree will be the exclamation point.

Frank will get to witness firsthand the frenzy which surrounds Christmas, especially for the tradition keepers, like me. I bought the Christmas cards and they are waiting to be addressed and signed. I have ideas for presents so that makes it easier for shopping.

And I could really care less if it snows, because we had enough snow last year to last for many winters to come. I’m fine with a green Christmas.

That’s a fun time of year. Pretty soon I will put up lights at my parents house because they are too wimpy and afraid of the cold to do it!

It may have been dreary outside, but this entry is warm and cozy. Enjoy!

I like the idea of the tree being the exclamation point!

Rain all day here Saturday. At least it wasn’t snow! I can’t get into Christmas decorating this early but I’ll probably do a little more this year than I have the last couple of years.

What a blast to share your christmas traditions with someone who’s new to the whole experience.
