Back to Work (For Real)

I can go back to work tomorrow! My three week unpaid vacation is over. It was a good break. I did some things I normally wouldn’t have had time to do. I got a lot of reading done. I had a lot of beach and pool time. I had more grandson time, plus more dog and cat time. Joe and I spent more time together, even though we were limited to sitting on the couch and holding hands, as Joe’s shingles still bother him. I rediscovered scrapbooking.

I’ll miss running my errands during the day. It’s so great to shop in a semi-empty grocery store. It’s great to work out during the period of time when the working people are leaving and before the stay-at-home moms and retired people come in.

But I missed the stimulation of ornery coworkers and thorny logistical problems. I missed the work structure of my day.

And of course, I missed getting paid. Even though I have savings, the lack of a check will bite me a bit next month.

The dew point in the Twin Cities yesterday was 82 degrees. Our heat index was 119 degrees, which was the highest in the country, I think, or broke a record for us.

The temp got to 97 degrees today, but it’s not as humid, and it’s windy. That helps.

I went to the beach today and baked in the nice hot sun. Whenever I got hot, I waded in and then immersed myself into the nice cool water of the lake.

Then I’d come back out into the sun and get hot all over again.

A cold front with no storms is supposed to ride through tonight and drop that dew point. Our high temp is predicted to be in the upper 80s tomorrow. The winds will be from the north. I’ll be able shut off the air conditioning and open those windows again.

Some state parks might re-open by Friday. I saw on the news that some people used the state parks during the shutdown and caused a lot of vandalism.

Also, because they didn’t have anywhere to use the toilet, they would poop and pee wherever, and then not clean it up.

What’s wrong with people?

I have yoga tonight. There’s no air conditioning in the school, so it will be like Bikram yoga.

Then to bed early so I can get up for work tomorrow.

I figured people would sneak into the state parks. I probably would have, but I wouldn’t have been gross white trash about it. 😛 I mowed lawn at 8:30 last night and still came in soaked like I’d showered. I’ll be glad for the heat relief!

Wow! Highest heat index I’ve experienced here in Florida has been 111. (I experienced 120 in the Grand Canyon, but that was dry heat.)I just learned today that Gay Talese used scrapbooking to write his stories:http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2011/07/gay-talese-scrapbooker.htmlWelcome back to work! (Awful about the park vandalism.)

Pretty flower. People are gross.

I wouldn’t mind 3 weeks off now. But I would mind not being paid I reckon!

Yay! I’m glad that you are back to work…to predictability. It’s great that you had the maturity and stability to enjoy at least some of the break. It is great getting to go to the gym when you want to go.
