Arctic Air Advisory

I just got an email for an arctic air advisory. We’ve had such a wimpy winter that temperatures below freezing are scary. We had a dusting of snow this morning and you would think the world came to an end.

I took another day off of work in order to take Joe to his colonoscopy. He probably didn’t need one, but during his physical exam his doctor noted some blood when he did the rectal check, so he recommended Joe have a colonoscopy.

I like being the driver, because all I have to do is wait for him in the lobby, and I used this time for some reading. And then I just drive him back to our house and feed him, and this afternoon, he’s been sleeping on the couch.

I didn’t have to do the prep and then spend three hours pooping to clean out my system. I didn’t have to starve myself for a day. I didn’t have to have a scope shoved up my butt.

But I missed taking the greatest nap ever. After I had my colonoscopy, I remember eating something and then laying on the couch with my head in Ray’s lap and sleeping for about two hours. I don’t nap, so it was wonderful to take such a long and refreshing nap.

Joe’s colon was clean. And that’s a good thing.

I bought one of those photo frame things that rotate digital photos. I saw one in my coworker’s office about four-five years ago and I just loved it, but these frames are so expensive, that I couldn’t justify buying one until . . .

Last weekend. I broke down and bought a frame at Wal-Mart. It’s a 10 inch and has a wooden frame and looks great on the piano.

I spent part of yesterday going through the thousands of digital photos I keep on a separate hard drive as well as my more recent photos. I chose about 520 photos and loaded them up on an USB and transferred them to the frame.

It was interesting going through photos Ray and I took back in 1999 and going forward to see my development as a photographer. I’m no Ansel Adams, but I did notice that my composition and use of light is much better than when I got my first SLR camera.

I love watching the slideshow on the frame. The photos are from cruises, Lake Superior, out west, Chicago, the boys as babies and as they are now, dogs, cats, gardens, and so many cool things. It’s like watching an endless photo album.

Probably the one problem I have with digital photography is that it’s digital. You can print photos, but I rarely do. Most of my photos are stored on the external hard drive and rarely seen by anyone.

It’s not quite the same as a photo album that I can pull out of the closet and everyone can share.

So now on this cold arctic night, I can look over to the piano and see a small section of my life and my life’s experiences slide on by.

What a fun purchase. I remember when those frames first came out and they were a ton of money but were still a hit as Christmas presents. I would think they are much more affordable these days.

I just love those digital frames too, and like you, mourn the loss of photo albums and printed photos. I’d really like to get one of those frames. Glad Joe’s fine!

Glad to hear Joe’s okay. A friend of mine uses one of those frames to display her book covers and review blurbs at conventions.

We’re expecting some arctic weather here too. The wind has been pretty crazy all day today-makes for drifting snow. The album sounds great.
