Zou Bisou Bisou

Friday was a little rough after the midnight Hunger Games showing but we powered through the workday and then had a really nice quiet night at home.  No matter what we’re doing or how much time we spend together, I just cannot get enough of that man.  On Saturday I did NOT want to get up, but we’d booked a weekend in Atlantic City, New Jersey so I had to haul my butt out of bed.  Reluctantly!  We took the greyhound bus from Port Authority to the Tropicana Hotel, and I have to say I was really impressed.  The bus itself was quite nice, the trip was quick and smooth, and everyone we interacted with from ticket pick-up to the driver himself, was exceedingly professional.  The mood on the bus was festive and hopeful too, I wondered if it would be different on the way back.

When we arrived we also received $25 worth of casino credits – not bad on a $34 roundtrip bus fare!  We were not staying at the Tropicana, but at the Chelsea, a non-gaming hotel right next door.  The Chelsea was really nice, the public spaces and rooms had such a cute decor, and again everyone bent over backwards to make sure we were having a nice time.  It was kind of surreal actually, not that I am used to rudeness but benign indifference maybe?  We got a quick bite of hot pretzels and coffee at the hotel coffeeshop and then took a lovely long walk on the beach.  It was not warm, but super-romantic.  I love those grey misty days…and then the beach on top of that…forget it!  The water was actually a good temp and I wanted to take a swim SO badly but I’m still not allowed to because of my eyes.  Bah.  After roaming the beach for a few hours we went right up to the hotel restaurant, called Chelsea Prime.  We had gotten a deal with the room where we had two free drinks and $100 towards dinner, and the restaurant was really nice – great view of the ocean!  After dinner we headed out to the Music Box concert hall at the Borgata hotel to see Fiona Apple.  Our seats were awesome and only cost me $43 each on StubHub – less than the face value and I think they were selling for close to $300 for both NYC shows so the whole weekend was a great deal.

She put on a wonderful show.  I was really wondering what she’s be like in concert (and honestly, if the show would be cancelled) but she was super-energetic, bouncing around, putting some jazzy blues beats into the old standards…very enthusastic.  Weirdly she has some of the longest arms I’ve ever seen (in relation to height) I think they must reach almost to her knees. No encore.  We had a couple of drinks at one of the Borgata bars, but left in a huff after someone stole my jacket (!)  Such crap…I still have no idea how this happened…I think it may have been when I went to the restroom and S turned his head or something.  It’s not like it was even a valuable jacket (Black cotton motorcycle style jacket wtih silver zippers…seriously $19 from Norma Kamali’s line for WalMart.)  So thanks for stealing my WALMART jacket, unknown jerk!  It had a lot of good memories, I wore it a lot on our trip to Greece and Turkey two years ago and a ton since then, just a good light throw-over-whatever jacket.  I also lost a favorite lipstick along with the coat, but luckily no blackberry, ID, or credit cards, which I do sometimes put into the jacket when I don’t have pockets in my clothes.  So I’m still steamed but a little thankful it wasn’t more of a hassle.  We cabbed it back to the Chelsea and went to sleep sometime around 2am.

The next day we showered, checked out, and went to wander the beach some more.  Had breakfast at The Continental at the Pier Shops on the other side of the boardwalk, which was cute and had really nice diner-type food.  We sat on the beach and S napped while I read.  I finished my book and we headed to the Tropicana to use our casino credits.  We played blackjack for an hour or so and broke just about even, making about $20 each on our "free" $25.  I’m not really a gambler – I think the higher risk stuff is kind of wasteful and the break-even stuff like poker or blackjack I find a little tedious.  People seem to love it though, even on a Sunday the place was packed.  Took the bus home, again a smooth trip and before I knew it we were back at Port Authority.

Took the subway back, got some groceries, then got showered and blowdried to go out for the evening.  We were headed to the Tribeca Grand for a party for the first "Mad Men" episode of the season, so we tried to theme it up a little.  S looked cute in his velvet blazer and an interesting checked shirt (can’t really describe but I like it) and I had this very fitted midi dress with a key-hole neckline.  Very sexy secretary – some people were way dressed up in 60’s-ish evening gowns and full out suits, which was nice to see but a little over the top for a Sunday night.  The party was good, lots of vintage cocktails and yummy nibbles going around, and I always love that screening room, not a bad seat in the house!  I try not to go out too much on Sunday nights anymore but this was low-key and worthwhile.  (Especially since we don’t have tv much less cable.)

When I saw her a few years ago, I was also weirded out by her weird long arms waving all around. But I also tell Tim not to stretch his arms out straight because his wingspan freaks me out. So that may be more of a personal problem.

People suck. Who steals a jacket? At least you get the satisfaction of knowing that person won’t get any money out of it.

RYN* Tim admits he would have been an amazing swimmer, if he wasn’t so lazy. And his arms are actually proportional – it’s more that I usually forget how very TALL he is, and when he puts his arms out like that I’m like “WTF? You are a freak!” It’s like how when I see him in pictures I realize how enormous he is, and it weirds me out. On the flip side, he’ll put his head down to be levelwith mine, and is weirded out by how the world looks when you’re short.

March 26, 2012

Norma Kamali designed for Walmart? Wow, didnt know that. I wonder if she still does? I can relate about wanting to spend all your time together. I can spend 24/7 with J and never get tired of her.

Love your title. Megan’s performance was…interesting.

March 26, 2012

Hey, Satine! Got time for a quick questions? If you had a choice between going to the west coast of Ireland (Ring of Kerry, etc) or Paris for a week.. which would you choose and why? Bill and I are trying to decide which to visit in July.

If you’re used to the benign indifference of NYC, you might pass out in the south. Love Fiona Apple!!

March 26, 2012

I can’t imagine wanting to be with someone like that. I wonder if that will ever happen to me.

March 26, 2012

I’m not a big gambler either, but your weekend sounds awesome! 🙂 Who steals a jacket? That’s such crap. 🙁

U I can’t believe someone had the balls to steal your jacket off the back of your chair while S had his head turned! WTF?! People are asshats. I’m glad you didn’t lose anything too important in it though. I didn’t even watch the mad men premiere but I have that zou bisou bisou song stuck in my head!

March 27, 2012

Ok, I know this entry merits more than this but… DID I KNOW YOU WERE HERE TWO YEARS AGO?? Tell me all about it when you feel like it, I’m such a junkie for hearing good things about Greece. Bad things too i guess. Sorry about your jacket 🙁 but it does give you a good excuse to come back here for more memories.. Big hug. C

March 27, 2012

I actually “get” your entry title. Great episode it was.

March 27, 2012

r: thanks. i was wondering about that. microsoft word always autocorrects its and it’s at random. i should have known not to trust the computer!

ryn: thank you. i’m confused about which me is the “real” me right now so it helps to verify here that i was, in fact, happy, before… you saw me in person my last night of happy *sigh*

ryn: no, the really sad part is i’ve let him permeate so much of my soul that i don’t even care about my career any more.

March 28, 2012

I don’t have a TV either. NY has way too much good stuff to do. uHaul is to move the personal possessions I am shipping to a port in NJ as that saves me over $500 and having to wait home for a day. Oh, how I miss the days of just passing someone the keys and flying off!

March 28, 2012

Fun weekend..minus the jacket part!

ryn: it was silly… a joke page for his car… no biggie.. not a secret account, just that i had the secret password to it he gave me back in the day.

March 29, 2012

I love hearing about places in the US 🙂 I don’t know much about it. That is so crap that someone would steal your jacket!! What the hell! Your Sunday night sounds lovely 🙂

ryn: I love you for that. Thank you for helping me feel less crazy. (and truly, I feel amazingly sane today)

ryn: he’s buying a cute little prewar studio a few blocks away from Grand Central, right by the water. Totally adorable little block with a tiny park in the middle.

March 29, 2012

Sounds like a wonderful weekend minus the jacket thing. Sigh. Glad nothing was more valuable stolen but it still SUCKS. I’m such a paranoid freak now, putting my cell into the back of the drawer everytime a customer walks in. It’s not just the $ value of the object these crooks take away. I can no longer relax in my own store! :-/

March 29, 2012

sounds like an action filled weekend… I’d be tired all the time if I tried to keep up with you….

March 30, 2012

oh wow… I would TOTALLY rather get a new horse! Pregnant or not, love the big magnificent besties. Big big kiss. Keep well my adventurous mermaid. xxxx C

March 30, 2012

You! Saw! Her! : dead :

March 31, 2012

I don’t get the whole gambling thing either, but you’re right, people love it! A lot of people love it too much! Plus – who steals a coat from a bar. Bad people, that’s who.

How’s Fiona Apple’s new stuff? I seriously don’t know how you keep up with your life! Last night I was all about the laundry and Netflix and wine, and that’s about all I could manage. 🙂

April 2, 2012

RYN – Thanks for pointing that out!!! 😛 CD xxx

RYN* Please buy them and let me borrow. Thank you!

i just wanted to say that after the season premier of mad men i was singing that zou bisou bisou song all night. and i was thrilled it was your entry title.
