Shining Beacon (1776 Feet)
Today is never a day I look forward to, and to be honest, I think I go into a funk for about two weeks beforehand each year. I rose early, put dishes away, brushed teeth, showered, lotioned, and dressed carefully. Black shift dress, silk scarf, ballet flats. Packed lunch (leftover seared tuna over baby spinach and multicolored cherry tomatoes) and headed out wearing huge dark sunglasses, just in case. It wasn’t one of those clear sunny days, heartbreaking in September, but I left them on. Just in case.
Coming out of the subway, I looked at my watch, wondering how long before it would be 8:46am. It was 7:45am, so just over an hour. I looked at the Wall Street Bull statue, a little morose, and paused a moment to reflect. So many things flooded into my head, and then I heard a loud sound.
It was a convoy of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, motoring down Broadway! I don’t know what they were there for, but I felt it might have been some sort of memorial ride. A parade of sternfaced bikers on their beautiful bikes, celebrating life. Whatever their reasons, it made me happy. Behind us, the Freedom Tower shines, getting closer to completion every day. I didn’t think I’d like it, but I do.
"Freedom is what you do with what has been done to you." – Jean-Paul Sartre

It’s a hard day on us all, most of all New Yorkers. Hugs to you.

It doesn’t seem like it’s been 12 years already, crazy how quickly the time flies…I have HLN on in the background as they show all the different ceremonies going on and reading all the names.

I can’t imagine what it must feel like to live in New York around this time of year. RYN: Jack and Diane was actually the movie that got me into Juno Temple. I didn’t care for the movie all that much, but her and Riley were incredible in it. Riley Keough should probably have Kristen Stewart’s career actually.

I think that day is burned into the memories of people the world over. I cant possibly imagine what it must have been like (still is) for the locals. Thoughts are with you all x

Ryns, he’s hoping to qualify for Kona. This race gets 50 spots, and he’s been finishing in the top 10 at the other races he’s been in, usually first in his age group. And about the collar – I am totally going to wear it with jeans!

I just wanted to tell you that I think you are such an amazing person. Your life is so sophisticated and interesting. Honestly, sometimes I don’t even know why you think mine is so great because yours seems awesome. But I wanted to tell you that I have so much respect for you. I don’t even know you, really, but I think if I did know you in person, we would be really good friends.

Ryn* yeah, but we’re not staying worth them. We’ve seen them for a Total of maybe four hours and she helped design the shirts. and today she’s also by herself. Which is fine, but why stress Jake out? She can’t run because she shattered her back in a paragliding accident.

ryn: thank you so much. 🙂 I do try to go for regular mani/pedis – but work interferes so no, sadly my nails don’t look that good 100% of the time. However, I do always get them done before I go on any kind of trip/vacation!
