Our Perfect Holiday Day

I was reading an article the other day about people born on difficult days such as the anniversary of a disaster or the birthday of a hated dictator. It made me think of our younger son who was due on June 6. I didn’t want him to be born on that day because of The Omen and was relieved when he arrived on the 3rd. When I told him this when he was a teenager he said it would have been a cool birthday to have! He even put it on Facebook as his birthday for a while.

Both of my two best childhood friends have bad things associated with their birthdays. One was born on Hitler’s birthday. When I found this out I vowed never to tell her but sadly after the massacre at Columbine High School she knew.  My other friend was born on April 15 which is the anniversary of the Titanic disaster and later also of Hillsborough. I was really pleased to discover it was also the anniversary of the day that William Wordsworth took his walk and discovered the daffodils on the shores of Ullswater that inspired the poem.

As we were in the Lake District that week we decided to go and see Wordsworth’s daffodils on April 15. It turned out to be one of the most perfect days of our holiday.

On the Monday we went to Ullswater. When I planned this trip I had no idea that Wordsworth’s lakeside walk that inspired the daffodils poem was on April 15th. I found out just before we left for the holiday so we thought it appropriate to go on the anniversary.

I have had to continue this entry on a new page as, for some reason it wouldn’t upload any more!
