Midsummer evenings

I love the sunsets at midsummer. At this time of the year the sun goes down between the hills directly opposite our house. Right now there’s a beautiful red glow in the sky with the pink roses bobbing in front of it. I don’t prune them low, I let them grow pretty tall because I like to see them in front of the sunset.

The roses are really prolific this year, especially my salmon pink one outside the back door. It’s a Samaritan rose and all of the profits go to Samaritans, but I’d have bought it anyway as it’s one of the most beautiful roses I’ve ever seen. It has a lovely scent, too.

On hot evenings I love to have a shower with the bathroom window open and the sun shining in. We are on the side of a hill, not overlooked at all as the main road dips down behind the railway. I suppose the people on the passing trains mights just catch a glimse of my naked body as I get out of the shower if they go past at the wrong moment!

Hubby is out painting on the patio. He took this up again after many years. He goes to an art group in the village. They had an exhibition last weekend. He used to paint when I first met him. He’s done some nice pictures. The only trouble is he won’t sell them and the house is slowly filling up. I told him he could hang some of them but he hasn’t got around to it!

They are predicting more rain for the weekend, so it’s probably just as well that I finally got my summer hanging baskets finished and up yesterday.
