How I came up with my Open Diary name
This was theme of the week a couple of weeks back but I missed it then.
I was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. It has a beautiful river, the Severn, flowing through the town. I went to school in the middle of the town and I used to cycle there along the river.
Sabrina is the Latin name for Severn. In The Dingle, a little park beside the river created from an old quarry, there is a statue of her with the lines from Milton –
Sabrina fair
Listen where thou art sitting
Under the glassie, cool, translucent wave,
In twisted braids of Lillies knitting
The loose train of thy amber-dropping hair,
Listen for dear honour’s sake,
Goddess of the silver lake,
Listen and save.
This is the statue
The Dingle Gardens at the other end of the lake
As for belle, I was born in Belle Vue Road.
RYN: The King’s Speech was awesome and received many Academy Awards this year!
