A lovely weekend away and raining ever since!

It’s tipping down outside and it feels as though it’s been raining for weeks but it probably is only about ten days on and off. They are saying on the news that we need weeks of it to fill the reservoirs after a very dry winter.

We had a lovely weekend away two weeks ago. It was rather chilly but sunny. I love travelling in the spring with the flowers and blossom everywhere. We had our gathering of our John Denver club on the Saturday. It’s always good to meet old friends and listen to music. Both Hubby and I sang as did many others in the afternoon. Then we went off in search of fish and chips and I noticed a signpost to Great Wyrley, where my great great grandfather once lived. I knew it was in the area but hadn’t realised it was so close. We still had an hour to spare before the evening concert so we drove there to have a look. There wasn’t very much to see. The pub looked as though it might have been there in his time but most of the houses were modern and I didn’t have the address with me as I hadn’t known we were going. We drove back arriving just in time for the one downpour of the weekend and I haa just changed into my evening shoes and long skirt! I managed to miss the puddles on my way back into the hall. We enjoyed a very good concert by Chris Bannister who I haven’t seen before.

The following day we went to visit some elderly cousins. Trevor is 91 and Joyce 89. They are wonderful people. Trevor still drives, though only locally, and only stopped maintaining his own car last year. Joyce has always been very welcoming and puts on a big spread while he told us some very funny jokes.  She is my mother’s first cousin and has helped me a lot with family history in the past. In fact the great great grandfather we had gone in search of the day before was her grandfather’s father.

Later  in the afternoon their daughter Judith came with her husband and three lively Papillon dogs. The afternoon passed all too soon. We set off back about 7pm. We can’t leave it too late nowadys as we both find driving in the dark tiring – old age creeping on, although if I make it to the age of my cousins and still have all of my faculties like them I won’t complain.

Hope it stops raining soon as I still haven’t put some of my summer seeds in.
