Oh Hell. Oh.

“I hold it to be the inalienable right of anybody to go to hell in his own way.”
~ Robert Frost

OK, so at work we’ve had two people quit in the last month and they’ve not yet been replaced. At the same time, the volume of work has increased, which puts added pressure on the remaining six of us. We’ve been averaging 15 hours of overtime every week; while nice on the paycheck, it’s been hell on my personal life. I go into work at 6:00 AM, stay until 4:00 PM Monday through Friday then work an additional five hours on Saturday morning. Most afternoons I nap a little bit, take the dogs out, go to the gym (sometimes, anyway) and then try to get at least six or seven hours of sleep.

I don’t have a personal life, more or less. Not satisfactory.

10K is seven weeks from this Saturday. I found an online training program and have been following it fairly closely, so I’m hoping that this guidance will motivate me and keep me on track. I was supposed to run 2 ½ miles last night and do light cross training tonight, but we had such awful storms (tornado variety, yuck) that I didn’t dare run outside (I can just see getting whisked away in a funnel cloud and landing in some fucked up version of Oz) so instead I’m switching last night for tonight. I went to yoga after work last night, so there’s my cross training and today, since it’s supposed to be so beautiful outdoors, I’ll hit the pavement and do my 2 ½ miles. Done deal.

Or at least done until I do two more miles on Friday and three miles on Sunday. Apparently there is no rest for the wicked or those training for a race out of their league.

Speaking of work and how it sucks lately, did I mention how I got served papers because of an affidavit I signed? Ugh, it’s stupid and hopefully the entire case will be dismissed … but if it isn’t and I have to be deposed, then I have to do it in Knoxville, TN. And if that happens, I am so totally going to make a side trip to Graceland.

And then maybe I’ll just keep going from there and not go back to Minnesota at all. Yeah, that will be me, walking in Memphis.

Sorry for the ear worm.

Blech. Well, Graceland is a great gift to give yourself if it happens. And if you stay there, that’s not so far from NC! 😉

IF you come to Knoxville, you BETTER come see ME!!!! (and you do know that memphis is about 10 hrs away from Knoxville, right?)

I feel like I’m in a f’ed up version of Oz on an almost daily basis. We were just in Knoxville! Kid still talks about the sun-sphere. It’s a nice part of the country.

I’d love to see Graceland. And yeah, thanks for the ear worm.

eek, i would freak if i got served papers, but i’m a bit of a spazz. hopefully it gets dismissed….although graceland would be kinda fun. 🙂 i think overtime, in limited spurts is warranted, simply due to the extra $$$. wish i could have some, i’d take it right about now. @};————-

Two earworms, actually, because I’m also singing Paul Simon in my head now. THANKS A LOT.

Will you be walking with your feet ten feet off of Beale?

July 28, 2010

I have reason to believe that you will be received in Graceland. (Can’t say no to a Paul Simon reference.) I’m sorry ’bout the papers. I hope it disappears. My old job almost got sued when I let go of an intern who was incompetent but happened to be black. That was fun. (The lawsuit disappeared, too.)

Graceland was so much fun. I went in 2003 with the evil ex when she and I drove from Knoxville, TN to SF, CA. Knoxville is at the extreme East end of TN and Memphis (Graceland) is at the opposite side in the West. As I recall it was a 7 hour drive one-way but I think we got stuck when there was road construction. Sorry about working so much. I am sure the $$ is good, but at what price?! I hope it evens out for you.

The race is only out of your league at the moment. Give it a few more weeks and you’ll be sweet! Hell, 10k is even out of my league at the moment, and I’ve got years of running under my belt. You’re going to be awesome.

But a good earworm it is. Those hours suck!

I love that Robert Frost quote.

RYN: I am glad you’re anti-Target too. It will probably save me a bunch of money not shopping there anymore. I never thought everyone in Minnesota was backwards. I mean look at Iowa allowing gay marriage now! There are wackos in every state including Califoria. I am horrified at some of the things that CA has done in the past 15 years. CA is not always a blue state. We have the fvckin’ Rebublican terminator for a gov. and he just reached the max amt of times he can serve, how wrong is that?

Waiting for you to be Walking in Phoenix. Thanks for the song bomb. 🙂

I love you, nugget.
