oh baby

now days are measured in the amount of Things i Accomplish  (i suck at this)  + Growing a Baby ( I’m good at this).

**i started this entry on 10/9 and i’m now just getting back to it.   just so you know.   and all i wrote on that day is the sentence above. ^^

ok, so.  this morning joaquin woke us up at:   3:21a, 5:17a, 6:40a and 8:11a.   each time, i fed him and then put him back in his sleeper or handed him off to aaron so he could sleep on his chest.

at the 8:11 mark, we were pretty much up for the day.  so i fed him and handed him back to daddy so i could Shower.    it’s amazing how big of an accomplishment the Shower can be.   when aaron has a busy day, it can be extremely hard to Shower.  there have been days where i can set him in his bouncer in the bathroom  and jump in the shower with no issues.   MOST days, i set him in the bouncer and he seems fine, then has a pteradactyl meltdown once i have shampoo in my hair.   so that’s fun.   but now we are trying to do the shower immediately after his morning feeding – with or without aaron – and it seems to be going well.

let’s just say i’ve showered MOST days this week, which is a vast improvement over the 3-4 showers per week i was averaging in the beginning.

once the basic Shower has been accomplished, there is a daily Walk, or ideally, Walk(s).   as of 10/10, i’ve been Offically Cleared to Workout, so i’m trying to figure out how to 1) incorporate more Walks / longer Walks  2) incorporate any other form of "exercise."   eventually!  i will try to Run.   but baby steps, see?

ok, so assuming a Shower and a Walk have been accomplished, then there is this list of things i try to accomplish on a regular basis:

  • eating something(s) of nutrional value
  • house cleaning  (dishes, sweeping, dusting, picking up, trash & diaper removal, etc.)
  • laundry (SO MUCH LAUNDRY for such a LITTLE GUY!!)
  • dog-related items (feeding, walking, petting, etc.)
  • nursery organizing
  • light work-related items (easing back in, little by little)
  • budget balancing  (i have a bit of an online shopping addiction these days, it might be a Problem)
  • grooming of myself (!)
  • conversating with my husband
  • interacting with other human beings
  • finish writing shower thank you notes
  • exercise?
  • etc
  • etc

but mostly my days are this:

feed the baby
burp the baby
entertain the baby
change the baby
sleep the baby
REPEAT

when the baby sleeps, it’s usually when i’m holding him.  i’ve figured out how to arrange myself so that my computer is within reach and have been learning how to type one-handed (not easy!)   but it’s almost impossible for me to get him to sleep in his swing, sleeper, bouncer or any other variation of Not On Me.    he’s a needy baby, what can i say.  therefore, anything that gets Accomplished usually happens when i hand him off to aaron.   then it’s a mad scramble to get as many things checked off my list as possible.

we are now trying really hard to create new habits so that he can sleep peacefully without having human contact, but it’s much, much easier said than done.

so until we can figure it out, i take my victories where i can find them – including writing this entry while i i nurse him!   amazing.

on today’s list of things i hope to accomplish:

– check out new City Target that just opened a few blocks away (GUYS, this is the most exciting thing besides my wedding and son’s birth that has ever happened to me!)
– deposit some checks at the bank
– watch a dvr’d episode of ellen
– eat something of nutrional value

and so we go!

I love this because it gives me a good idea of what to expect in approximately NINE WEEKS! You’re doing so well and it’s encouraging 😀

you’re doing great!

Those eyes are killer. KILLER. What a sweet little guy! Showers in my house don’t occur until nighttime when Daddy gets home and can do baby-duty for awhile. Sometimes I get lucky and can manage to get one in while he’s napping. Of course I have the baby moniter in the bathroom and get the house soaked from hopping out to run and check when I hear any sort of peep. We’re lucky, Rett is a super laid back baby and doesn’t really have epic meltdowns, but he is going through a “you gotta hold me every waking moment” phase.

I remember those early days. It gets easier each week. I can’t believe I want to do this again and hopefully get to soon! You have a beautiful son!

You are doing such a good job. Look at him!

He is so beautiful! Gosh that face. That face is going to make you guys laugh and be happy A LOT when it starts talking I’m thinking. I mean, I’m sure it already is, but he is going to be a firecracker I can tell. His eyes seem so alert and intelligent, no? Also, how is your furry son handling new baby stuff?
