FIRST of all: liana had her baby yesterday! ZOMG! so the story is that she was supposed to go in a for a scheduled c-section on 5/14 (she has a few complications that made it completely mandatory to have the procedure scheduled for 36 1/2 weeks) but she started bleeding yesterday and was rushed to the hospital via ambulance (UM, YIKES.) they put her right into surgery and within an hour baby havana arrived. such a crazy whirlwind. i mean, she was mentally preparing to have the baby in five days, but she was not mentally prepared to be whisked off to the hospital in such a dramatic fashion … pretty crazy. the upside is that she didn’t have time to completely obsess about the procedure, AND she got a good night’s sleep the night before. how many mamas can say they had a full night’s sleep and an hour-long delivery before they got to meet their little ones? not a lot , i bet.
so that happened.
i’m going to go meet havana and harrass liana in a few hours. i can barely stand it!
so joaquin is now 36 weeks, 2 days old. he’s ON THE MOVE in such a major way. he’s now crawling pretty efficiently – he switches between a crawl on all fours and a slithery-tummy crawl, but he’s getting so strong and he’s so proud of himself. he’s actually been doing the slither-crawl since we went to coachella and learned how to do it from his older buddy, micah. but the crawl on all fours is pretty new and, i must say, pretty impressive.
he’s also learning the meaning of the word "NO." he understands it, but doesn’t always comply. we are trying to use the word sparingly ( i have this article in my brain), and are trying to use distraction tactics, but this is a smart baby, and he for sure wants to play with whatever he SHOULD NOT be playing with. it’s amazing when he gets ahold of something like a remote control or, god forbid, one of our iphones. the noises he makes are sheer excitement, coupled with "i can’t believe i’m getting away with this" and it’s on one hand, awesome and delighful and on the other – somewhat terrifying.
he graduated to the big boy bath last night- we are now using an inflatable duck situation within the bathtub because we’re not quite ready to let him be in the big boy tub without any props. he stilll loves bath time and it’s been such a good routine for us since he was 3 weeks old. now that he’s a monkey with super human strength, it’s harder to get him to just stay put, so it was nice to see him just do whatever he wanted in the bath last night without us worrying that he was going to topple out of the bathtub perched on the kitchen sink or jam his brain on one of the cupboards above the sink.
welp. i have to get my stinky dog to the groomer and then head to the hospital to meet a special, brand-new human being. but! before i go, please to enjoy these pictures of my baby, you will.
cool baby
He is quite the dapper little fellow, your son is! I like how he can already identify things of value he should not be messing with.
