Two of our cats have gone missing. My roommate asked me last night if I had seen them since Sunday. I initially said no, but then I realized that I wasn’t sure. I’m more worried about my cat than his. His is a tough looking cat, and I think it was a stray once upon a time. Mine only recently began braving the outdoors, and he rarely wanders beyond the front porch.
My roommate speculates that they were kidnapped by a neighbor girl who has admired one of them for some time. I also keep checking the animal shelter website. I might go up there tonight. It’s also possible that coyotes got them. That might sound ridiculous since we do live in town, but the Western edge of Austin evidentally encroaches pretty badly on nature. There are often deer in our front yard.
To totally switch gears, I’m going to outright rant about something that really gets under my skin. Every Sunday, almost without exception, while I’m trying to have a conversation with someone, we are interrupted by another person who seems to not realize or not care that they are being rude. When I say “someone” and “another person”, I’m not talking about particular individuals. It seems to happen no matter who I’m talking to.
The length of the conversation doesn’t seem to be a factor. I mention that because I could almost understand someone butting in if I was really monopolizing the time of a person he wanted to talk to. Last Sunday, for instance, I walked up to someone, waited for them to finish talking to someone else, and I said, “My reading group got disbanded due to lack of interest. They told me to talk to you about joining yours.” And midway through his response, someone came up and started trying to talk to him.
What is with people? It makes me want to start making liberal use of my pimp hand. One of these days, I’m going to start telling these people that they’re being rude, and to please wait until we’re done talking. I doubt that’s going to up my chances of winning the popularity contest, but I’m already pretty low in the standings, anyway.
Maybe you should bark at them.
