It’s Friday already – where did this week go?
Wednesday was as busy as expected. Bit disapointed with the orthodontist, 30min car drive, 10 min walk to get there, then for the first time ever there was no one waiting ahead of us so we went straight in. She then proceded to tell my son what lovely teeth he had and how well he had done, and to just make an appointment to get the brace removed. Which was kind of the same thing she said last time, which is what made us think she would be removing it then. But no – apparently she does removal procedures in the morning, so when we went to make the appointment the soonest they can get him in is february! He was a little disapointed, I think he was looking forward to having a brace free christmas, but then he hasn’t ever complained about having it all.
I then had to take the same son to his parents evening. Only had 3 teachers to see as some of the teachers had actually said they only needed to see certain parents if there was something they actually needed to talk to the parents about, unless of course the parents particularly wanted to see particular teachers. (not sure if that made sense but there ya go!) His English teacher was first, she is very young, probably mid 20’s, and was full of praise for all my son’s work, needs to concentrate on punctuation at times (don’t we all!!) And then went on to say how much she loves to hear him read out loud! Apparently he puts real ‘gusto’ into it and she has requested he read out to the class a few times now. Right now they are reading The boys in the stripped pajamas, She asked if he was enjoying – to which he just shrugged and said ‘s’ok’ lol
The next teacher was an older lady who takes him for geography and citizenship (don’t ask!) Again, full of praise and no concerns, above target in his grades, all good. One thing that both she and the english teacher said was they would like to see him with his hand up more often in class. They know he knows the answers, but unless he is picked on to answer, he won’t volunteer. (sounds very similar to me in that way!)
The last teacher takes him for history and (I forget what it’s called now but is basically what we used to call RE) Sam had already told me that this was probably his favorite teacher – and his favorite subject (history, not the RE!) Again I was a little shocked to see how young he was, but again he said lots of good things, telling me my son is just the model student great grades etc. He even talks more in this class! So all in all a very proud mum moment 🙂
Yesterday was fun. In the morning I was babysitting my friends 7 month old little lad while her and her hubby went to see the christmas concert at school. It’s been a while since I looked after a baby, but wow it all comes flooding back after a few minutes! Even had to change a poopy nappy – twice! He was lovely though, thankfully it did not make me feel the least bit broody. When my friend came to collect him she asked if I’d have another one – I was like, babies are lovely – but there is no way I’d have anymore lol. But have offered to baby sit anytime 🙂
The afternoon it was my turn to see the concert. To cut a long story short (and to prevent me having a rant!) my mil came with me. The concert was lovely. The children all did really well. But the big downside, my daughter was standing behind the biggest tallest angel in the whole school – so needless to say, I hardly saw her. Tried to video bits of it, but you just couldn’t see her! All the children had had their photo taken in their costumes, and these were available to buy £1 to help raise money for the school. Didn’t like the thought of her photo being left, not bought, so of course I bought it! It did come in a nice white card 😉
Today so far, my usual work day. Although when I got home after collecting my daughter from school, my eldest son has come home with a letter from the head master, congratulating him on his effort grades this term, and he has a certificate AND he was awarded a specially engraved pen (awarded for excellence) and he actually got to not only see the headmaster (he is generally only ever seen at christmas and special occasions!!) but got to shake his hand! That was a huge thing for my son! There are 300+ students in my son’s year and only 50 have been awarded the pens, so it’s a little incentive for them all, seems to work! So my mum pride is just huge right now!
I have my regular work call tonight, but then my boss has invited us home carers to her house this evening for drinks and nibbles. Can’t really drink much as I’m out early in the morning, but I feel I should make the effort. And mostly we all get on ok so it will be nice to catch up a bit. Although we usually end up talking about the clients, finding out what they have all been saying about each of us! Still it will be an hour out of the house, which will be a change for me!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend
Love and blessings xxxx

Well done your boys!! I had the same thing with Lila, she’s so petite and all I could see was the teacher sitting in front directing them! X
