Nice few days

Yesterday was good. Son behaved very unteenagerish and was a pleasure to be with all day long. We played the inevitable Monopoly and he thrashed me on his new Wii.

Son’s dad called to wish him happy Christmas, but as usual, didn’t send a card or anything that took effort. I haven’t heard a thing from daughter for a while now. I heard that she moved to Calgary again about two months ago; I sent her a birthday present at the beginning of December (her birthday’s 17th December), but I’ve no idea if she received it. Because of the lack of contact and not knowing if she’s at the same address or not, I didn’t risk another parcel, so for Christmas, I sent her a card and some costume jewellery. I also transferred some money to her with PayPal, but again, I don’t know if she’s received it. I do wish I knew more and/or could do more, but I don’t spend time with destructive wishing.

Today I fed and watered rubbish cat for the last time. His mummy and daddy were due back tomorrow, but then tonight I had a call from them; they came back tonight instead and are eternally grateful to me for looking after their baby. I’ve been promised a lovely dinner sometime to say “thank you” for feeding it and cleaning up its “little accident.”

During the holiday, I put some beers in the garden because my ‘fridge was too full for them. I put them in a safe place and noticed that in that same safe place was a big bag of daffodil bulbs I’d put there some months back! It’s so safe a place, I forget all about stuff in it! Anyway, some of these bulbs were growing green shooty things, so I planted them all today. I have no idea if they’re likely to grow; they should have been put in the ground ages ago! Time will tell.

Tomorrow I’m going up (“up” because it’s north to where I live) to see Emma, Chris and their baby, Jack. Jack’s a new addition since I last wrote here much and he is, of course, perfect. He was born on son’s 18th birthday and with his middle name, is named after my brother. It’s been ages since I had a little one to get Christmas gifts for and it’s lovely to do it again. All those bright colours and electronic tunes in non-toxic, British standard plastic; they’re so commercial and mass produced, but such fun! I did want to buy him some rag books too, but couldn’t find them anywhere – needless to say, I left it too late to order online.

Nice few days.

A Canadian might forget where he or she hid the daffodil bulbs, but never where the beer was stashed! I hope your flowers grow…since they’ve decided to start anyway. I hope your daughter calls soon to let you know how things are going.

Glad your holiday was peaceful, and sorry to hear Daughter is not much in your life right now. RYN: A fire pit is a stainless steel or copper bowl, usually about three feet across, housed in a granite or marble table-like stand. They’re usually about three feet high and portable, except that they’re very heavy, so they’re not very portable. Anyway, there’s a grate in the bowl you stack logs ontop of and then you light a fire and cover the bowl with a wire mesh screen. It throws off some heat and is very nice and peaceful to look at. It’s sort of like having an outdoor fireplace.

Merry Christmas, glad you had a good day with son and hope daughter gets in touch soon. Know what you mean about shopping for babies – my niece is 5 months old and we had a fantastic time in ELC choosing things for her and guess what she played with …. of course, the wrapping paper!!

I’m glad it turned out better than you thought it would. Daughter will contact you when she needs you. But I can’t imagine what it’s like not knowing where she is or how she is. Glad Son is a delight these days.

Good Lord Woman!!!! Where have you been???? *huggshuggshuggs* I have missed you!

I hope you hear from your daughter. Calgary has tons of work. We live about 25 minutes from it. I hate to say it but it is party central at this time of year due to all the young people living here for work. I’ll say some prayers about contact.

I wanted to say that I did read all about your friend, Lauren. I found it interesting. I am very happy that I live in Canada.

Good to read that you had a pleasant Christmas Day. How did your son get to be 18?!!!!! Whew, I guess that means everyone else is getting older, too. I hope your daughter has enough sense to contact you, thank you for her gifts and let you know how she is getting on.MEnjoy your time with Emma, Chris and their baby son.
