Why do people make things so difficult?

Latest news I’m reading is that the new Apple tablet, iSlate or iTablet or iWhatever, has the “keyboard problem” to overcome. Problem is, of course, that keyboards on little sized devices are stupidly small and are impossible to use by anyone whose fingers are normal sized and decent sized keyboards only come with desktops or normal sized laptops.

But what is the problem? I really don’t see it (however, I do admit I have a very simplistic view of the technology world).

Two facts are clear.

1  –  The keyboard needs to be standard sized to accommodate human beings.

2  –  The keyboard needs to be at least as small as the little portable device it’s for.

So invent a folding one, as an accessory, for heaven’s sake. Or even one that can be rolled up – you know, something like the piano keyboard you can already buy, but smaller. A wafer thin, infra red or laser, touch sensitive keyboard that when not in use, slides or folds neatly into a special space built into the device.  In fact, expanding on this idea, the keyboard could fold up in such a way that it could also double as a case for the device.

No doubt someone with knowledge will tell me that it’s been done already – in which case, why isn’t it being developed and used and on sale in PC World, etc? Or tell me that it’s not practical for some reason – in which case, overcome the impracticalities and make it work; that’s what difficulties and challenges are for!

I like a key board that I can use. RYN: Bob skates are strapped onto shoes. They have double blades on each foot. They are for toddlers. Lots of people take well…babies skating in Canada. LOL!

In the last “Die Hard”, the Justin Long character had roll up keyboards. …

I had a folding keyboard for my Palm, and it was fab. I never use the Tungsten PDA any more, but when I did, it was superb. Folding and roll-up keyboards are all out there for the using.
