I’m a “Chosen” One!

I may not write every day, but I miss OD when I can’t read it.

Anyway, I was one of the special diarists whose diary was compromised by the latest clever person to hack in. My email from the DiaryMaster said, "As we reported in an e-mail last night, some of the passwords to OD accounts were obtained illegally from our server. Your diary is one of the accounts that was affected by this problem."

The DiaryMaster’s entry states that over 2000 diaries were affected. According to the home page, there are 557,722 diaries on OD, which means that only 0.36% were affected. Statistically, therefore, none of the diaries I read or whose authors read me are likely to have been affected… it would be really interesting to see if this is the case.

Would you note and let me know? There’s no hidden agenda here; I’m just genuinely interested.

Statistics lie. (Said by a former maths teacher.) I was chosen, too, have just discarded the OD password e-mailed to me and have made up a new, original one. Here’s hoping I don’t forget it and lock myself out of OD. Actually, if the coding was embedded in a note, I imagine it’s more likely to have been imbedded under posts made recently rather than in diaries seldom used – which means maybe statistics don’t lie after all?

We’ll set the trends from now on and expect the rest of the world to follow us (and especially, US writing instructors. *grin*) My theory on who was hacked yesterday is that the idiot -oops, I mean, the hacker – went by Christian names. Well, it’s as good a theory as any other.
