Dead for a Month

For a month I have had no computer.  Yesterday I got it back.

Whatever was wrong with it completely f*cked up my hard drive.  The whole thing had to be totally reformatted and my computer is like a new one again (I took the chance to up the memory as well).  That’s the good bit.  However I lost all my data.  Every last song, picture, document, downloaded OD, the LOT.  That’s the bad bit.

Sympathy please.

In other news, I’ve started seriously applying for other jobs.  For financial reasons I need to go full time and give up the luxury of several part-time jobs, all of which I enjoy, but which are not quite so secure as a full time one.  I have an interview next week for one of them and have to give a presentation about young people’s involvement.  Of all the uninspiring topics, eh?

Anyway, trying to think out of the box a little, I’m going to consult young people first and base the presentation on their answers – thus (I hope) highlighting the importance of involving young people!  So if anybody reading this has access to young people, PLEASE could you ask them these questions and let me know their responses?

What do you see as the value of young people’s involvement?
1)  At local level – what happens in your club, school or youth group?
2)  At strategic level – what is planned for young poeple by adults in power?

Thanks… and it’s good to be back.

lots of sympathy – I would be absolutely gutted. We lost a lot of our pics here after a power surge. I really must make a shadow copy of my laptop. I’ll do my best on the young people thing. Not promising – most of mine are Belgian anyway, but I might be able to get a response from my old tutor group.

I hate computer problems. I feel so lost without my computer, which is sad. Good look with the job search! I think #1, by the way.

Nice to see you! Not sure if i know any young people .. but I do remember one thing I heard from a 17 year old girl once when i was a cllr … she criticised the policy of a youth club for 12 – 17 year olds, as the oppostie ends of the age group had nothing in common. Dunno if that helps.

Shit, I’d have a fit if that happened to me. I’m buying a terrabyte backup drive tomorrow.

Oh, much sympathy! Losing the contents of my computer would be a bit like having a fire going through gutting my home; not nice at all.The best of wishes for your interview. I hope it goes/has gone well.
