WARNING – Rant ahead

Once again words fail me in describing the unprofessional attitude of some companies.

As you may know I managed to get myself a job after 7 long months of unemployment.  I was extremely pleased at this and couldn’t wait to start work.  Seems I am going to have to!  I cannot be given a start date until I have Occupational Health clearance, then I can do the induction and mandatory training  (Basic Life Support, Infection control, moving and handling)  while waiting for the other clearance from the Criminal records Bureau.  But first I have to fill the forms in to send off to these places which come from the people who gave me the job. I went for the interview on 27th June, the paperwork reached me today (15th).  I have posted them back straight  away, but will have to wait at least 2 weeks before the reports are returned!

In the meantime, another recruiter form a Health agency rang me to see if I was interested in a Pharmaceutical Sales position with one of the big companies. It would be selling Diabetes medication into Primary Care establishments.  Oh yes I would!  So I went for the interview on Wednesday (had the phone call on Monday!) at which I had to give a presentation.  Seeing as it was short notice I was quite pleased with the outcome of it.  I felt I did OK on the whole interview and was told that there were only 2 short listed candidates for each area, which meant I had 50% chance of getting the job.  The interviewers said they would let me know either Wednesday night or Thursday morning.  As you can probably guess from my rant, I heard nothing.  I actually rang the recruiter today to ask what the outcome was.  Now this company likes to give feedback from interviews which are pretty helpful.  The reason I hadn’t had a call was that the recruiter was waiting for the feedback from the interviewer.  I can understand that but I am annoyed that A) the interviewer hasn’t bothered to get the feedback to the recruiter in the time stipulated, and B) the recruiter never bothered to give a quick call saying feedback not ready yet will phone you when it is.  She has my mobile number so a simple SMS would have sufficed.

I guess what I am really annoyed about is the unprofessionalism  of  both sets of management.  If I had been late for an interview and not contacted them, or just not turned up, then they would have thought a lot less of me.  It’s like making an appointment with a client and not keeping it. It really sux!  Ok rant over…for now!

I will wait and see how quick the reports get back to the first job.  At the same time I was contacted by another recruiter who has put my CV forward to a company for a Nurse Advisor job in Woundcare.  Apparently I should know beginning of next week if I am to get an interview……..I guess I won’t hold my breath!

Had some disturbing news last night . My auntie (mum’s sister) has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She found a lump 2 weeks ago, had tests and it was confirmed yesterday. She is to have a mastectomy on August 4th, and some lymph nodes are involved as well. Then chemo and radio therapy.  We have friends and other relatives that have beaten this before so we are being quite positive, but mum is affected quite a bit. She is on her own since dad passed away and her and my auntie are quite close and speak every day.  Again I guess we will see what happens.

We’re going to be speaking to Lee’s solicitor on Monday to see if all the reports are in and when we are setting a date for the 2 parties to get together and talk money figures. We’re hoping it will be soon so we can at least draw a line under part of this debacle.

He still needs more physio to get moving with his prosthetic limb.  Another appointment is booked for the 29th to see the limb guy for an update on when he can start again.

Well, I think that’s all for now, people. Catch ya on the flip-flop ! (ooh 70s CB speak! LOL)

Don’t know why companies are so unprofessional. I had a similar experience with a very small business last year–said they’d call one way or the other. I’m still waiting for the call. It’s been a year. Don’t think they wanted me. lol. That’s a big 10-4, good buddy.

I hate the way companies do that crap. You are so right – it’s completely unprofessional and inexcusable. How much effort does it take to make a phone call and just say, “Sorry, we chose another candidate.” But it really is rare that you hear back from any of them. Don’t take the length of time from the pharm company as a bad thing. They may still be considering which applicant to choose.I once had totally given up on a job that I applied for and got a call a month later. The guy said he had interviewed a few people and took a while to make a decision then he was taking vacation and didn’t want to call me and have me start while he was away. So, you never know.

We will keep fingers crossed for either of the two jobs! It’s tough times and hopefully it will lessen your stress sooner than later.

The point of the figure 8’s is to teach consequential turns in opposite directions. This is good to know for some Nova Scotian roads. lol. Also, the turns in the figure 8’s gave us about 5 metres of turning space, so we were making tighter turns than in the big circles, theoretically. It’s been taking me out of my comfort zone and been really good.

The counter-steering is very cool. I found myself using it when we were following Scot around, since he was going at a faster pace. It’s really neat. It was a very full weekend, and they taught us a LOT. The clutch use is something that a lot of longterm bikers don’t know, beyond shifting gears. Love it for making very slow turns.

Rant at will! Good luck with your job interview.

yes three years. but the bike is all in tune and just needs me to spiff up the shine. im not a loner biker. you know that. and B doesn’t ride nor drive one so that part is out. just lost confidence after dena my cousin had breast cancer and dropped out of life. she’s still alive, but her oomph has gone. and so did mine i guess

Double standards from management are irritating, to say the least – rant justified 🙂
