Not much happening….!

Not a shred of evidence exists in favor of the idea that life is serious. Brendan Gill
I really like this quote!!

Another interesting week this side of the big pond.

Monday was a trip to the Podiatrist for yours truly to have my regular paring of the carbuncle or whatever it is on the bottom of my foot since my accident. Feels so much better now. I had a new insole made by the hospital just over a week ago. It seems to be working fine and we’ll just see how it goes.

Tuesday saw Dawn going to the docs for a meds review. She has also began with an all over itch last week and it has been driving her mad despite taking anti-histamines. Our doc is really good but “needs” to explain everything, so we were in there a while. He ordered blood tests for her and she had to go in wednesday for them.

Wednesday saw me “signing on” to receive my unemployment benefit. It has to be done every fortnight. I don’t get a great dfeal but at least it’s something, and it keeps my national insurance up to date ( Another ‘tax’ we have to pay that goes towards out NHS service, etc).

Nothing much happened on Thursday, apart from the washing machine going bang! Frightened Dawn to death as she was actually in the same room when it went! The machine is only 3 ½ years old but it gets used at least ever day, sometimes 2 or 3 times. So there is probably 8 years service on the thing! Had the repairman around today and its a circuit board that went pop so he is hoping we can get one cheap off Ebay! He’s checking for us tonight. If not it will mean a new machine, an expense we could really do without at the moment.

We had a phone call from the docs today about Dawn’s blood tests. Apparently she is quite badly anaemic (sp). So she has been put on a course of iron tablets and repeat blood tests in a couple of months. Her periods have been really heavy recently, maybe part of “the change”, and we think this has led to it. Hopefully it will stop her body itching as well.

This weekend is planned to be a quiet one. Grandkids have all got chickenpox, so they won’t be descending on us. Maybe a bit of shopping, out on the bike hopefully if it stays dry. I’m looking forward to next saturday though. A new theatre has opened up again in Peterborough, the big city closest to us. I checked out their itinerary today and saw “An Evening with Rick Wakeman” on the bill. I have been longing to get to one of these. Some of you may not know the name, but he’s an English Rock keyboard player, with the likes of Yes. He’s sold 50 million records worldwide, his own albums such things as “Journey To The Centre of The Earth”, “Six Wives of King Henry VIII”, and “King Arthur”. He has also DJ’d on Planet Rock radio for some years, and his shows have been so funny. He recently toured with Jon Anderson, the lead singer of Yes, and their concerts were sold out. His one man “Evening” shows are, apparently, filled with lots of laughs and good music so I just can’t wait.

Lee had an appointment with his new Prosthetic people today and got on really well. He had a mould made of his stump, and they said the leg he has needs a lot of changing so they have kept it and he has to go back in 3 weeks to have it checked for fit. He is excited about it, especially as his new knee brace (for his left knee) will be here before then too, so he will be good to go with his rehab/physio again.

OK people all updated again, so catch you in a few again!

Hugz all

Glad Dawn has got sorted with some iron tablets…. am on them myself! Good luck with the washing machine dilemma, and also with Lee’s new prosthetic…with good rehab he will adjust in no time. hugs P

I’m hoping you will end up having multiple job offers soon! I can relate to Dawn. I’m going through similar myself. Getting older just sucks in so many ways!

Whew, I can’t imagine when it’s not all “not much happening”! 🙂

ryn: Nope. No pay increase. No explanation. Nothing.

This bodes for a good week overall. My favorite quote “life is too important to be taken seriously.” Oscar Wilde. Seems they thought alike.

ryn: I don’t know how you guys can handle the fuel prices over there. I’m guessing salaries are a bit higher there to offset it. I checked diesel fuel prices when I was out today and it’s $3.99 a gallon here.

ryn: Wow! You’d make a lot more here. A starting salary for an RN is around $60,000 here. One with experience and a bachelors degree would be $75,000 to $80,000 (maybe more). You are probably right about us supplementing locally. I’d seriously have to start riding my bicycle to work if our prices were as high as yours.
