3 Days Post op
Lee is doing so well, I can’t tell you how proud I am of the guy!
The op went well, approx 3hours. He spent the night in the High Dependancy Unit which is normal for this sort of operation. Returned to the ward the next morning.
We went to see him later in the day and he was in really good spirits. He is getting some phantom pain from the right ankle, which is strange as he never had any pain there when he had the leg! His stump was plastered to control the swelling. That plaster fell off yesterday (sat) as the swelling was already reducing. He was up and about in a wheelchair yesterday, which made him happy, and today (sun) hopes to get up on crutches.
If all goes well he should be back home around Tuesday. The plan then is return, as outpatient , on 28th June to see the Prosthetics dept and to get a cast made of his stump, and then return to the hospital for his rehab on July 12th. He’ll be in for about 2 weeks which means it will be over his birthday (24th). He’s not at all bothered about this as he knows it will be a big step forward in his recovery.
Weather over here is up and down again as usual. Been really hot and sunny for the last few days, had a thunderstorm last night, warm again today but threatening showers, and the forecast for the week is another mixed bag of cloudy, showery, rainy, dry and warm days. Don’t you just love British weather! It’s been that hot here it’s difficult to sleep even with windows open and wearing very little (i.e nuffink!)
Oh well, with that thought in your heads I’ll leave ya! LOL

I’m so glad it went well! I’m hoping for a super speedy recovery for him! And ryn: yes, I’m sure lack of food had a lot to do with it. Also, the only things I had to drink during the day were coffee, coffee, cappuccino. Then I drank the wine. Then the vodka. All I ate that day was a yogurt, a donut and a few chunks of watermelon. So I was dehydrated, I’m sure, before I started drinking. It wasreally hot, too.

It’ll be good for him to be able to be up and around. I know this was a hard decision, and I hope it all goes well for him.

well done Lee, a major issue and change for him. Phantom pain is not uncommon in such situations as you will know..but that too shall pass I am sure. With such a loving supportive family around him he can’t go wrong…..and I am sure too that all the external support networks and necessities are set up for him as well. Hugs to you all…P

I sure am behind on my reading. I had no idea Lee and your family were going through this. It is hard, but clearly Lee has a “tomorrow I’ll get up and walk again” attitude. With you and Dawn to support him I know his recovery will be a strong one. Been i.m. you on yahoo, but never get a response. You still chat? Hugz to the whole family.
