WTF?

You know, I find women an interesting subspecies of human beings. Logic has never been a particularly strong suit, in general, for women.

Take for example my ex-wife. Back in the early 90’s, we had a relationship, procreated, then determined our paths did not lie in the same directions so we terminated our relationship. As things normally go, the children we had jointly went to her and child support was ordered.

Now, we get into the tricky part of things. Child support, while meant to support the children, does not take into account the needs of the person having to make the support payments. Unfortunately, since I never obtained a college degree and had no marketable skills, I had to take the best jobs I could get and live with other people just to be able to live. Hence, child support, while important I know, was just not feasible on my income.

Jump to 2001 and I had finally gotten a job with potential and had been constantly communicating with my ex-wife as to the nature of my plight and that I was about to start making a constant income that would begin to start paying the support on a consistent basis.

Then I got slapped down and was served papers to have my parental right terminated. After careful thought and consultation with a lawyer, I signed the papers after discussion with my ex-wife as to the visitation privileges for my parents. She agreed, the papers were signed and I was forgiven the back support I owed and any future support.

Now, if we fast forward to 2009, I got a call from my mother who had, in turn, received a call from my ex-wife. Apparently, because my ex-wife couldn’t maintain discipline within her own house, the boys had essentially overrun her authority and she was requesting MY HELP to get them back in line. To which I responded that I have no authority over those boys and I’m not allowed contact with them as per the agreement.

Well, turns out that my ex-wife has never filed the papers with the courts to have my parental rights removed and that, for eight years, I could’ve had contact and an actual relationship with them…especially since I was about to begin catching up the arrears in support when the paperwork hit.

The youngest, Jason, rode in the truck with me for a couple of weeks in 2009 and then stayed in my home for 3 weeks in 2010. Both times he lied and stole from me and others while in my care.

At the end of the three week visit in 2010, my oldest, Jonathon, came to live in Mississippi with me and has been here ever since. He graduated from high school here and has intentions of attending Ole Miss for his college. While he has been a challenge, he’s still better than Jason when it comes to the things that matter, IMO.

Unfortunately, getting back to Jason, he has committed several felonies in the state of Texas just recently and, again, my ex-wife is coming to me for help. $500 later, she now wants him to come live with me to get him away from some woman who is “brain washing” him (I call bullshit) but I have no place to put him now that Jonathon is living here. He would have no room of his own as his brother would not share a room with him, the neighbors don’t want him around since he broke into at least one house while he was here and I couldn’t leave him alone in the house without some kind of supervision on a permanent basis – meaning both day AND night. And I know he doesn’t want to come here at all. He couldn’t wait after three weeks of dealing with me and my wife to shake the dust of us off of his shoes and run back to Texas.

My only fear at this time is if the court system in Texas orders him to stay with me. I would, by the law, have no choice but to comply but I would not allow Jason to overrun me or this household and, should he break any laws here, whether intentionally or not, I would turn him in myself for prosecution. I know it sounds harsh, but it is apparently time for tough love on that boy’s part.

Till Next Time,

If only my parents had been willing to take the same stance with my brother….he might have turned out to be something decent.
