NoJoMo – Warlock Day

profile for riverwolfe

When I first declared my intentions of studying Wicca and then, surprisingly enough, adopting it as my religion, a lot of people immediately thought I would be a warlock. While Bewitched was a good show when it was on, it took some things and twisted them horribly. And those things have stuck in people’s minds over all these years.

Warlock, literally translated, means “oath breaker.” Witches, male or female, do not break their oaths consciously. Witches are human people also and make mistakes, forget things, or even lose interest just like the next person. Only someone who goes out of their way to break an oath would ever be called a warlock, in my opinion. And, again in my opinion, you don’t need to be a witch to be a warlock..

Warlock Day
November 19th

According to medieval European lore, if you meet a dark-clothed man on this date, he will be a warlock, who may try to “convert” or bewitch passersby. The concept of converting people is alien to Wicca: all individuals are free to choose their own path, and all must take responsibility for their own actions without coercing anyone else. Even the term “warlock” is controversial, as there is no distinction in Wicca between female and male witches. However, if you are a male witch, reclaim this day as a positive celebration of your identity.

Nature’s Healer

Aloe vera, one of nature’s most potent healing plant, is invaluable at this time of year. Its skin-calming properties help eczema and other conditions exacerbated by heating systems, while its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties help fight infection and sooth respiratory ailments.

that was very interesting by the way i love your backround; i love wolves

Ah, but “wicce” referred to a male walker of that way, and “wicca” referred to a female walker of that way. I’m reluctant to say “practitioner” but I guess the word will suffice. “Wiccan” is itself a plural word; that’s how the Germanic languages like Anglo-Saxon or Old English work.

So, since you’re male, you’re a wicce. A Witch.
