My thoughts about today’s events

I have a few thoughts that I’d like to share concerning the events that led up to today’s inauguration of our 44th President of the United States. Some people may not agree with what I say and that is fine. However, any comments blasting me for not supporting “your” candidate, completely, will be deleted and access to my information will be severely curtailed. What I write here is my own opinion and mine alone. I do not expect the world to jump on board with me.

While my particular religious choice usually moves people towards the Democratic side of the spectrum, I do not move that way. Yet, I do not fully agree with the Republican side of things either. So, that puts me, in my opinion, fully into the camp of the Independents.

Most people that I know, know how I voted. If you don’t, I will put you on the same track as the rest. For President, I voted “None of the Above.” For my Congressmen (or –women), I voted “None of the Above.” For every other race that the Mississippi ballot had, I voted “None of the Above.”

Now, the question I am sure that pops to the tip of your tongue is, more that likely, “Why!? Why would you vote that way?!” And my answer would be simply this: I voted my conscious. That’s right, I actually voted what my conscious told me to. Because I felt, personally, that neither of the men running for the highest office in our land would do anything to help to people of this land.

Now, I know that you are probably wondering why I bring this up now. Well, maybe not though as everyone in the world just watched Barack Obama inaugurated as America’s 44th President. But, there are more reasons than just that.

The people that I know that are Democrats are celebrating tonight, which is understandable. They have finally gotten a Democrat into the White House again. To these people I say congratulations.

The people that I know that are Republicans are NOT celebrating tonight but instead weeping for a nation. They weep because they feel as if Barack Obama is going to destroy the very fabric of what this nation has become.

To the Democrats, I have this to say: It will not be as good as you think it will.

To the Republicans, I have this to say: It will not be as bad as you think it will.

I say this because the President of the United States of America is required to “faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

I hope everyone understands what that means. It means that the President must abide by the Constitution. And, to get that changed requires ratification of a new Amendment by the States. The only way to do that is to –

1. Congress proposes amendments.
As is the case with the flag burning amendment, both houses of Congress approve by two-thirds votes a resolution calling for the amendment. The resolution does not require the president’s signature. To become effective, the proposed amendment must then be “ratified” or approved by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states. Congress typically places a time limit of seven years for ratification by the states.

or

2. The states propose amendments.
The legislatures of two-thirds of the states vote to call for a convention at which constitutional amendments can be proposed. Amendments proposed by the convention would again require ratification by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states.

So, while President Obama can suggest, it still requires the people to act upon that.

But, that’s not the point of this. It’s just a little bit of “mental masturbation” on my part, I guess. More to the point is this:

Barack Obama is now the 44th President of the United States. While you may not have voted for the man, it is only prudent that we, as the people of America, support him at this time. He is brand new into the job and is going to need the support of the American people to ensure that this country remains strong.

Now is not the time to start blasting the man that the majority of Americans chose as our new leader. Now is the time to come together and try and heal a divided nation and put our differences aside. At the very least, give the man a chance to show what he can, or cannot, do for our country, before you begin to crucify him.

Thank you, and good night.

This was brilliant! I really wish that more people actually read the Constitution so that they would know these things…but then that would require the people of our nation to want to know things. Be well and Blessed Be

I had one of my copies of the Constitution and my flag out today, proudly. I have not felt this good about all the hard work we have to do as a nation since, oh, about 1976. I hope that we can put differences aside and support necessary changes. I appreciate what you wrote here, for sure. BB,

Just as I respected your right to choose “None Of The Above” and the fact that you made that choice based on the courage of your convictions and your conscience. And I respect you for having the balls to put this out here tonight of all nights. Bless you and safe travel my friend.

I agree with this. I’m not sure why you thought people wouldn’t. How you vote is your choice. Isn’t a shame that people have to be so defensive about religion and politics, etc? Usually if I have a “none of the above” attitude though, I just stay home and don’t bother… and the world goes on without my vote and no one even notices. However, collectively… you are right. Obama cannot do much unless the people stand behind him, in good times and in difficult times….which many people are not willing to do. They’re fine when things are going great for them…but turn tail and run when they need to sacrifice something for the good of another. It’s greed. And I think for many, it’s here to stay. I agree with Lasergirl…he’s very well spoken, charming, inspiring and if ANYONE can start the ball rolling on the path towards a positive outcome… he can if given the support and a chance.

Very well sad, and you are very right. No matter who you voted for, things only get done by going through a process. I actually feel bad for the guy because everyone I think, expects things to get better with a blink of they eye and that just wont happen!
