Reassurance

Shaylee is at work with me today. She’s sick, and today is the last day of her meds that she needs at 11:30, so I asked my boss and brought her in for the day. She’s on my lap now. Being quiet and not barking. For now.

She’s put me in better spirits though. She loves me unconditionally, even when she’s not listening to me. And she knows that I love her.

I grew up with a dog. Some may think that’s why I didn’t have many friends growing up. But I think people who are more attuned to dogs have more of this ‘compassion’ that I talk about sometimes. Maybe not the literal translation of the word, but a level of it.

Caroline sent me a text this morning: "Fireflies!"

Have you ever had a song with someone? This is our friends song. It was big when she and I were first getting to know each other and it made her think of me and made me think of her, so every time we hear it, we text each other ‘Fireflies!’ and then we both smile.

It’s good to have those little things with people. They remind us that we are thought about. And people need to be thought about. Some people know they are thought about and don’t second guess it. but others, like myself, are less secure. It makes it harder for us to build and formulate relationships in life.

I need unconditional love. It’s the real reason Erin and I are together and married. She understands the concept of unconditional love like no one else. She ‘gets’ it. So, she gets me.
