so sweet
i was looking through our skimpy gazette when this story caught my eye.
at the local nursing home there was this man named mr detillier and he was retelling stories of when he was younger. socializing im sure in these homes are paramount in maintaining a sense of self. anyway he is telling the story of when he was drafted in 1942 and how he helped a young soldier with letters to his girlfriend and family. the young soldier couldnt read or write and his first language was french and he cried that he wouldnt be able to be in contact with his family. so mr detillier took the soldier under his wing and wrote letters for him and read the letters that came back to him.
mrs cormadelle heard the stories and said that her husband was drafted in 1942 also and they he was at ft livingston also.
well you got it! her husband was the young soldier that mr detellier helped. in fact mrs cormadelle had all the letters that her husband ever sent her. she took the first one and read it aloud to mr detellier and he recited the ending of the letter for her. that sealed it, he was the one that had written all those letters. he said he remembered them like it was yesterday.
serendipity works its magic.
What an awesome story.
