Only One Number Has Stayed
I have had a pretty long life and have explored various hobbies, interests, places, educations, etc. I’ve also seen and done all sorts of things. I’ve met many interesting characters in my lifetime, as well, lmao.
My work history is indeed varied and versatile, as there were things I was passionate about, things I was interested in, things society expected me to do, and things I just did for a paycheck.
I considered three things as I was looking at my entire history to try to determine where I belong (if anywhere).
- Longest collective length of time with one organization
- How I really felt about the organizations as a whole (implied mission statement vs. actual mission, culture, public image, my personal experiences, other people’s experiences, pay and benefits, “operations,” etc.).
- The number
The first two items on the list are very important, but number three is key since people view me as somewhat of a “numbers” person.
I got to thinking the other night. I am X years old and have had various experiences, yet there is only ONE work ID in my memory, lmao. I can’t remember a single other unique work ID I’ve ever had in my entire life. God is my witness. I am telling the absolute truth.
This ONE number is always with me. I have not been able to delete it, scramble it, or bury it, even when I’ve tried very hard to. I know such number just as well as I know my own social security number. I don’t need to find any document or ask any other party what that number is because it has been somehow burned into my existence.
No other numbers have ever taken like that, not even the large telecommunications corpo’s numbers. I don’t have the foggiest idea what my work ID was, lol. I’m sure I could find it in a document or something, but we’re strictly talking about numbers that stayed with me.
So now we know that only ONE number is on my actual hard drive, but what about points 1 and 2 from above? Well, the same company that this ONE number belongs to is the same company that wins on points 1 and 2 as well.
So there’s that.
If I belong anywhere in this world’s workforce, it’s there. No question about it. So it’s going to be there or nowhere for me.
