Honor Flight – News Part 2

The second part of the KDRV news spot I think is still too short to fully show all that we did and felt.

Featured in it are several of the vets, and watching it I had to sit here and smile. Then it got to the interview with Jim Cate. He was the gentleman I wrote about, the Marine who was at Iwo Jim and saw the flag raised, and then lost his sight the next day. I watched him give that short interview at the airport, and then I sat and talked with him for awhile afterwords. It was 65 years ago, and all these men still remember names and faces of friends lost…

Honor Flight: part 2

Also featured in the clip are my uncle, Richard, and my mother Gail. NOT featured is my cousin James who went on this trip as well – he was not featured because he was running around like a madman keeping track of everything from wheelchairs to helping vets with medications and finding them drinks and food. He slept as little as I did and I know he did more than I did. Words cannot convey just how wonderful he is as a person – and if we lived closer we also established we would be friends and hang out (and he’s volunteered to be my concert buddy when I go up to Portland 🙂

It was only four days, but in that time I fell in love with each of these Vets, completely and totally. It is so easy to love good people, because every one I met was so open and honest and friendly. They arrived with open minds and open hearts and we allowed each other into our lives.

Now tomorrow, I have to get cards for all the Vets – I have pictures to send to me 24 new grandpas 🙂
