Repair in the Hoophouse it’s easier
than putting this short article together! I always forget about the photo main page for manipulating my pictures! dang, well back to work…
Fixing the hoops, one hoop at a time
I have to cut loose the top purlin, that lone vertical pipe down the center. This will let me get the top center hoop out of their ends without causing any damage to the pvc.
The first hoop you can see in the picture below is the repaired one. It used to look just like the second one. The bends were caused by severe winds after a loading of snow.
It takes about 30 minutes or so right now to replace the top piece in a hoop. I will have to go back in and do a repair at the top purlin to make it secure to the hoop.
I am also trying to figure a way to keep the westerly winds from pushing the west wall of the hoops towards the east. This is what is bending the top bow at the swaged end. I might have to install a cable every 3 or so hoops and cross them from the side purlins to the 4 foot wall height on the opposite side.
We’ll see.
In this second picture you can see some of the temporary wires, wraps and ropes that I put on to hold the hoops from going any farther in the winds of the last couple days. This bought me time to think about how to repair it without too many steps.
This picture is the top of the 10 foot ladder. I have to go to the top and push my foot out on the purlin near the cross to the right of the top rung. There is a joint up where the smudge is on the roof pvc. I can get the joint loosened but then getting the replacement back in is a bit of a go!
Well, I just wanted to get this down on paper before I go out again. Hoop all is going well out there in virtual land!
Be well;peace…dan

We call them polytunnels here. Oh I bet wind loves them! Such fun to rip apart! Be careful on that ladder. Your crops need you in the whole of your health.

Smallish popultion of less then 500 indigenous people. There are a few fishing lodges operating over there and you have to get permission to visit. I am told it is a beautiful place.

You’ll get this one figured out so when you build one in the southern state you visit you will know how to beat the wind.

Big job especially with the snow as a menace! Interesting challenges to deal with on the new structures. Wind will be a problem here as well.
