My new gardening friend has another day of dirt!

Starting the Seeds

Busy day today… deemed the right day to start the indoor seeds… Last weekend I planted lettuce, snap peas, carrots and radishes outside, but waited a week before starting those seeds to be transplanted as seedlings after the last spring frost.

 
I decided to sprout one egg carton worth each of the following heirloom seeds: 
 
Vegetables

• California Wonder Pepper (Sweet Green Pepper)
• DeCicco Broccoli
• Giant Beefsteak Tomato
• Long Purple Eggplant

Herbs

• English Thyme
• Russian Tarragon
• Summer Savory
• Spearmint
• Greek Oregano
• Sweet Marjoram
• Catnip

And one tray on non heirloom… from seeds we saved from the food we purchased… Don’t know if it’s been hybridized or not, but I assume so. We may get inconsistent results, but it’s worth a try: Hot Vietnamese Peppers.


Medicinal: Haven’t started those yet. Will probably tackle them next weekend.

 
I’ve been saving the cardboard egg cartons throughout the winter and replacing the eggshells back into the slots after using. This way the calcium can leach into the potting soil used to start the seeds. I also used 7.0 pH Kangen water on each of the trays of seeds. After research is done to determine particular pH preferences of the various seeds, then we can adjust upward or downward accordingly. I figured that this was a good place to start.
 
Here’s a snapshot of the seed trays and the indoor greenhouse bought on sale for $40! Lovely little specimens, aren’t they?!
