Thunderstorms (R)

One Day at a Time

It amazes me how well I can do, endurance wise, cardiovascularly, even when I have long layoffs between runs.  I thought there would be no way I could make it three miles today, maybe I could do two miles.  But, no problem.  Pace is a little down but that’s just expected given my lack of consistency lately.  My leg muscles could use some toning, and they will get it IF I’m consistent.  So, I seem to be able to maintain my run distances (per run) even with long layoffs . . . yet if I overtrain, as I believe I have done in the past, it gets virtually impossible to improve with the weekly mileage.  Imagine what I could do if I found the perfect balance?  Not overtraining, yet being consistent in my approach.  I guess that’s where a training plan comes in.  The trick is to find the right one . . . I don’t think I was ready for that half marathon plan I started on weeks ago, and of course it fell apart.

First day of spring today . . . actually, the equinox is at 7:21 PM, local time.  So, about four hours from now.  It’s a bit cooler today than it has been, mainly because of clouds.  That 30% rain chance last night quickly turned into an 80% chance as by 11PM, the weather service could no longer pretend we wouldn’t have storms bearing down apon us soon after.  It becomes pretty easy to forecast rain and thunderstorms (in the very short term) when you’re looking at a radar instead of your models.  I think we got about 2/3 of an inch of rain.  It stormed from about 12AM to 3AM.  Many lightning strikes, much thunder, good stuff.  We haven’t had one of those, probably since last fall sometime.  Spring and Summer are the season for them . . . exciting!  Actually May – August is probably our "thunderstorm season".  So we have a little while before we get into the heart of it.  Summer thunderstorms are the best.  Hoping it won’t be a dry summer (that would be abnormal here) as I’d hate to miss out on those.
