One Day at a Time

. . . probably not very interesting or noteworthy, but just like it says, random stuff from my day today.

Have you ever smelled dead fish?  Or a dead animal?  It’s a noxious odour.  One of my coworkers has been smelling like that for about a week now.  Everyone is onto it, so it’s not just me smelling things.  It’s not body odour, I know what that smells like.  It smells like a dead carcas.  I don’t get it  How can someone smell like that?  I try not to participate in the gossip going around about him.  It’s not kind.  The smell is annoying though.  I’m just glad it’s not me they are talking about.  There was a time when it might have been.  There was a time during my drinking days where I just generally didn’t give a crap and would go days without bathing.  Thankfully, I’m a different person now, and I take pride in grooming myself these days, or I like to think so, anyway.

Someone told me today that he was originally from California and I looked like I could/should be from California.  WTF?  So first I talk like a yankee (so everyone says), and now I look like I’m from California?  He asked me if I had ever been to California, and he said he wasn’t knocking Georgia, but that there was a whole lot more things to do in California, and that it was an interesting place.  I told him I’d never been.  The furthest west I’ve ever been is Colorado Springs.  I used to dream of places like Southern California, especially during those horrible, cold, rainy winter days in Atlanta.  Mediterranean climate is great.  Deserts are cool too.  I’ve been to west Texas and I loved the desert there.  I still think tropical is my favorite climate.  Some place like Miami might be close enough to that, or Hawaii, although I don’t think it rains enough in Hawaii to my liking (guess it depends on where in Hawaii).

I got my usual at the Subway for lunch:  Big Philly Cheesesteak 6 inch on Italian with pepperjack cheese, onions, jalapenos, salt, pepper, oil, and vinegar.  I always get the Big Philly except once in a very long while I will get an Italian BMT 6 in on Italian with pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomato, olives, onions, banana peppers, spicy mustard, salt, pepper, oil, and vinegar.  Anyhow, so, I got my usual Big Philly but the new guy there doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing so for the second time he’s tried to shortchange me on the steak in the Big Philly.  When I see him making it wrong I correct him.  I know it’s annoying as hell for him, I sure wouldn’t want someone telling me how to do my job, but I get the sandwich every day and all the other employees there make the Big Philly with one and a half large scoops of steak (so that has to be correct), but he only puts one large scoop, shortchanging me by 33% on the amount of meat.  I tried not to be rude but I was firm, since this is the second time he’s gotten it wrong.  He acts like he doesn’t believe me, like I’m trying to get something extra for nothing.  I told him I know because I get this sandwich every day (that I work a full shift and don’t get the BMT).  Finally, he gives in and makes it correctly.  If he does it again, I’m going to get another of his coworkers to intervene because everyone else that works there always makes it right.  And I told him today that I wasn’t trying to give him a hard time, but I simply want my money’s worth.  He’s essentially trying to make me a Steak and Cheese sandwich when what I want and what I’m paying for is the Big Philly.  I only make $8.65 an hour, I am not about to pay for something I don’t get.

Time changed of course so the sun had still not set as of when I got off from work at 7PM.  That’s pretty cool, LOL (it doesn’t take much to make me happy, I guess).

I hope to run tomorrow (Monday) before work.  Took today off since I ran the last two days in a row.

I’ve smelled dead fish and you’re right, it’s not pleasant. Maybe the supe could pull the guy aside privately and let him know what’s up. Your profile pic looks like a guy who might (stereotypically) be from California. You know, the proverbial long-haired look. Doesn’t sound like he was putting you down though. Just an observation of his. BTW I lived in Colorado Springs for 3 years when I was in the Air Force. I miss that place.
