Spring (R)

One Day at a Time

Every year I question why Spring has come so early.  It’s still February.  It’s not supposed to be Spring . . . yet.   But every year I realize that this is not unusual.  In Augusta, GA, spring always comes early, and it’s not abnormal.  It’s how it’s supposed to be.  If this was Augusta, ME, and spring came this early, we might have a problem.  The pear trees are starting to bloom.  Everything is, really.  The flowering trees come first, and then over time things should get nice and green.  I really hope we get enough rain this spring to make things real green and to keep the pollen levels in check.  It was disgusting last year with the pollen because it kept building up, and it wouldn’t rain for weeks.  We had some real good rains in early February, so the soil is probably good to go for the early part of spring.  We’ll need to see more rain in March though.  March is typcially, if you look at averages, the wettest month for Augusta (November is the driest).  Right now the 10 day forecast has a lot of mostly sunny/partly cloudy days with a couple of moderate rain chances, highs ranging from low 60’s to upper 70’s and lows ranging from upper 30’s to low 50’s.  Average high this time of year is right around mid 60’s.

I was tired by the time I reached half a mile.  Twelve days without running will get to you like that.  I just kept going and tried to take the pace not so hard.  It’s toughest on the breathing, not on the legs, after sitting out so long.  I completed three miles.  Not sure if that’s good or bad.  It doesn’t matter.  I’m just glad I got the run in.  It was enjoyable, although I’m thinking I didn’t get enough water/fluids.  It was quite warm with 73 degrees and the sun out (although humidity was not high).  I felt a little overheated afterward (used to cooler running weather and I could have been better hydrated), so I jumped in the cool shower right afterward and all was good.  Drinking water now.
