Spring III

One Day at a Time

Most of the pear trees have lost their blooms and are now completely leaved. The dogwoods and azaleas are in full bloom now. Thought about taking pictures but I really don’t have time right now. A layer of pollen is starting to cover everything . . . most recognizably, cars. My car is covered. Yuck. And nothing a but a slight rain chance between now and the end of the month . . . looks like late month we might have a weather pattern change, God willing. Spring can be dry here (but not always), just like fall, as the jet stream retreats to the north and we no longer have regular low pressure systems moving through (as in winter). If it is to rain, we need the humidity up. It’s been quite low lately. Even when cold fronts come through they are dry fronts. I remember this time last year, it was much the same, very warm and very dry. But I’m sure it will rain again eventually. Summer is usually quite humid so we get convective "pop up" thunderstorms quite frequently (in an average year). It’s almost as if nature purposefully gives us this dry spell each Spring to give the pollen a chance to disperse. I don’t know. I would think we need the rain though for all the budding, growing leaves coming in on the trees (then again the soil is probably still moist from all that rain we got in February). Every day I see more green, but there are still many trees with no green. What’s the hold up, man?

My latest schedule is out at work. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. I was shocked. I knew to expect full time but I had no idea it would be "regular". All five days that I’m scheduled for the first full week in April will be 7A-3P shifts. I will have Mon and Wed off that week. My department manager had mentioned some time ago about making me his regular opener, day shift person, but I didn’t expect that when he was successful at getting me full time that he’d be successful in getting me that gig as well. It looks like he may have been. That is not a random schedule. There’s no way I would get that schedule unless it was intentional. Now we’ll see as successive schedules come out, does it hold or does it not. If it does, I will be able to count on going to evening meetings every week, and I even might be able be involved in some other social things which require a regular schedule (although my off days would probably vary from week to week, the time I work each day would not). That’s the good side. The flip side is that I’m not a morning person. Well, actually, I am in a way . . . I love getting up early, and I feel very productive in the morning, but because it’s hard for me to get to sleep before 2AM at the earliest, I don’t hold out very well all day. I might operate ideally on two sleep periods . . . 4 hours at night and 4 hrs in the afternoon. I don’t know. Or perhaps I could just get used to going to bed at 10PM every night. I feel like I’m missing something when I go to bed so early . . . 10PM is before the local nightly news, and before the late night shows (not that I ever watch that stuff, but still), just seems early. Hooray for regularity, though!

I screwed up again at work. I was in a hurry I guess, and we have two different keys/locks for different game cases. I accidentally stuck the wrong key in the lock on one of the cases and jammed the lock. Also, that was our last key for the other lock, and it was necessarily destroyed in order to get it out of the jammed lock. So, now we have to change two locks. The store will incur this expense, because of my mistake. My department manager is afraid he’s going to get written up over it because this is like the 4th or 5th time in two months that something like this has happened, and it’s making him look bad. Two weeks ago my co worker Kenny did the same thing. Before that it was someone else, and before that I don’t remember what the problem was. But I know the store manager is getting tired of it. I know how they could solve this problem. Get every lock changed and make it the SAME so no one gets confused about what keys to use. But then again, confusion wasn’t my problem, it was just a simple mistake anyone could have made (but having all locks the same would have made it an impossible mistake to make). It’s a mistake I won’t make again but unless they make all the locks the same I’d be very surprised if eventually, someone else doesn’t make the same mistake. Most stores use the same locks/keys for every game case. I know why they won’t do that though . . . it would cost too much money to have all the locks overhauled/changed. Instead, they’d rather piece meal it and get one or two locks changed whenever there is a problem. Anyhow, I hope he doesn’t get written up. If he does he may try to write me up. And even if he doesn’t or can’t (my zone manager and the loss prevention manager said they didn’t think this rises to the level to get written up so I shouldn’t worry about it, just an honest mistake), I hope he doesn’t hold a resentment against me over the whole thing for making him look bad. It’s really going to be hard to work with a boss (and I will be actually working with him quite a bit since it looks like I’m being scheduled day shifts) who has it out for me. Why would he not have it out for me when he knows that it was MY fault that he got in trouble. Hmmm. I know I shouldn’t borrow trouble, worry. My mom told me to deal with the consequences when they come, and if they don’t come, or until they come, don’t worry about it. At this point, I’m honestly just tired of worrying about every little thing. I need to just stop.

It’s going to be hot in the house tonight. It already is, really. It sort of was last night. My parents have so far refused to turn on the air conditioning. One bad thing about spring is the switch over from heat to AC, because of course you want to save money, not run the AC until you absolutely have to, but in the mean time, you suffer. It was 77F in the house last night . . . actually it’s 77F right now too. I like it cooler, especially when I sleep. 68F is perfect sleeping weather. Not 77F. It’s been in the 80sF for two days now (but not very humid, so it feels really fake to me, like a fake heat, because to me hot weather is supposed to be humid and nasty feeling). Supposed to cool off to upper 60sF tomorrow.

Hey I’m so glad you got those regular shifts! You must be doing a really good job there. You can’t help making mistakes, if someone who never makes mistakes on their job it probably means they aren’t doing enough 🙂 I read somewhere that the trick to a regular sleep pattern is not when you go to sleep but when you wake up. They say that if you always force yourself to wake up at the same time no matter how you feel, eventually your body will adjust and will learn to sleep early enough to adjust for the waking time. Although you do end up feeling bad for a few days. I don’t know if this will work for you.
