sew me

Because Georgie commented on my last entry about it, let me clarify something.  I’ve been sewing pretty much my whole life.  My grandmother did embroidery needlework and there are pieces she did throughout all of our houses.  She taught me how to do it as well; so yes, I can embroider pieces and do some crewel needlepoint but I don’t do it very often because I have sensitive fingers (ideal for being a masseuse but not for dealing with needles all day).  When I was in high school I got a machine but no one in my family really ever used a machine so I pretty much had to teach myself how to use it (back before there was the interwebs, remember those days?  *sigh* I’m le olde).  I was good at altering clothes to fit me and my odd body shape (yay being top-heavy with a small waist *sarcasm*).  I always dreamed of making clothes but the logistics of it always outsmarted me.  Well, now I have friends who can sit down and walk me through the steps and help me when I run into snags.  So I’m now making clothes.  I’ve started with very simple dresses but I’ve pretty much mastered that at this point so I think I’m going to move on to something new soon, maybe a cloak or even a simple bodice (finally!!) or a pair of harem-pants, who knows.

I may post some pictures of the dresses I’ve made once I’ve gotten to wear them but they are period dresses for our historical camping adventure in a few weeks and they aren’t done yet because there is one hem that is kicking my butt that I have to get a lesson on doing.  After that or maybe whatever pictures get taken during the event, I will post here so that you guys can see my creations.  One is really good, one is so-so, and another is well…kind of awful but I’m fixing it haha.
