NoJoMo good mixed with the bad…

One of my faves wrote an entry on the NoJoMo prompt about what role technology plays in your life.  Which made me think about how technology is such a double edged sword.  It’s good mixed with bad.  Although I do think the good outweighs the bad.  Some of the bad is kids don’t have to think as much.  Math problems are easy to do now with calculators available to you.  Who needs to worry about spelling when you can run a spell check?  Instead of trying to figure something out for yourself just run a google search and quickly find the answer.  No more need to check your blind spot when driving.  Now your car will let you know if something is there for you.  Bored?  No more need to try to create some cool new game to play.  No need to pretend to play house or other crazy games.  You’ve got PS3, XBox, Wii and other games to do the thinking for you…to do the creating for you.  No more taking a risk buying music and getting stuck with an album with 10 tracks you’re not crazy about and only 4 you really like.  lol  To one up that…no more need to spend money on music.  If you’re willing to risk it and know the sites to use you can download tons of music for free.  You could even do the same with movies.

But the good so outweighs that.  It outweighs kids losing their creativity.  Technology has helped so much with the advancement of medicine.  But not even just medicine….look at how advanced prosthetic limbs have become.  They used to pretty much be like Captain Hook’s hand.  They looked nothing like a real limb.  They were very limited in what they could help you do.  Even when they advanced a bit more to look more realistic you had hands that couldn’t do anything except look like a hand.  Now with computers you can get a limb built with computers inside so that you can actually control it.  Even look at the advancements of hearing aid devices.  You have people who for the first time in their lives can hear thanks to devices.  So I can’t hate technology when you have miracles like that.  I’ve seen a video of a baby get fitted for a hearing device and the reaction the child had when he heard his mother was just touching.  He would get such a huge grin on his face as he stared at her while she talked.  So things like that kind of make up for lazy kids who get bored quickly even though they have so much at their hands.  Defibiliators…how many lives have those saved?  Jaws of life?  How many times have lives been saved in accidents cause someone had a cell phone and could quickly call for help vs the old days where you had to either walk to a phone, find someone to drive to it or pray help just came along.  I guess technology is one of those things where you take the good with the bad.

Christmas shopping is going okay.  With some things I’m just kicking in money towards stuff my mom has gotten for people.  Like say putting money towards a 32 inch TV bought.  Stuff like that.  Which helps me out since I don’t have much desire to try and think of ideas for people.  Plus shopping will be a bigger pain this year for me than most years.  I say that because of my work schedule.  Although here soon stores should be going to later hours if they haven’t already.  Although one interesting thing is the fact my parents aren’t going as cheap as I expected this year.  Considering they are paying for stuff next year they had already said it would be a cheap Christmas.  Which was okay with me but knowing some of the gifts bought already they aren’t going that cheap.  Granted I don’t think they are going overboard like they normally do but they aren’t going what most people would deem "cheap".

I didn’t really get to wrap this entry up the way I wanted to but the day is ending at work and I need to get this posted because tonight will be the usual of just relaxing and watching movies with J.  And I wanted to be sure I got an entry put up today for NoJoMo.  So I guess as they say something is better than nothing.  Well at least in this case cause if the something was a punch in the face than nothing would be better.  lol
