It’s raining NoJoMo…
I lack anything exciting to write and since the one prompt kind of caught my attention I figured I’d run with it. The prompt actually caught my attention because it’s a bit of a weird question. When you think ideal the situation in this prompt normally isn’t one that people would call ideal. In fact a lot of times this situation is the opposite of ideal and usually ruins plans for people. But the prompt was to describe your ideal rainy day. Which as I said struck me as odd because most people would never consider a rainy day to be ideal in any way. There’s very few things in life where it’s like "Oh awesome it’s raining! This is perfect". I mean think of it. How many times in life have you been really happy it rained? Usually you’re only happy it rains because you want to avoid having to go somewhere outside. I admit I like the rain. Well sometimes. Sometimes I hate it because people forget how to drive in it. But I’m that person that just slowly walks in the rain. I don’t go racing to my car because sometimes running makes it worse. People don’t realize that the water you end up splashing up from the ground kind of helps to make you just as wet if not worse than if you went slower. I guess one way I could think of an ideal rainy day is a day I need to get shopping done. After all rain does tend to make some people think twice about going out to do errands and going to stores. So in a way the rain would help me have to deal with less people at the stores.
But I guess my ideal rainy day would be the typical lazy day. Stay home, stay in your PJs and just lay around watching movies or TV. Nothing too crazy. Although if the rain does warrant a good storm (lightning) then that day might involve watching some of the storm. I admit at times I’m extremely fascinated by lightning. The colors of it. The shapes. How it lights up the sky. It’s just a very interesting thing to watch. It can be extremely beautiful in a scary way. I say scary way since we’ve had at least two incidents of lightning hitting things on the street we live on. One time it hit a chimney and another time it hit a telephone pole or something like that. I live close to a water source (lake) so sometimes we get some crazy lightning off the lake. I remember a few storms that a few of us just sat by the windows watching it. We were just in awe. In fact the one storm we even saw a lightning bolt that pretty much almost made a circle. Never seen that before. Another time we saw almost identical lightning bolts strike at the same time. They had the same shape to them and same color. Or years ago a fun rainy day would actually be hitting up an amusement park. As long as it doesn’t rain too much. Just enough rain helps drive away crowds but you can’t have too much. Too much rain could shut down rides. But less crowds means less lines. Plus then you get the chance to experience every ride as a water ride lol. Also back in the day it was a blast sometimes playing softball in the rain. Although that’s a bit rare cause usually it has to be a fall league. Summer leagues tend to avoid playing in the rain if they can get away with it mostly cause obviously people playing softball in mud tends to tear up the field. Or at least make it not so pretty. But in the fall…it’s a fun time! Suddenly the faster players aren’t so fast anymore. Suddenly grounders become sure hits because they hit a mud spot and just stick. Although it’s a bit scary since sometimes you can lose a cleat in the process of running. lol Nothing more fun than trying to run out a hit and your cleat decides it’s going to stay behind and not help you out. I’ve seen that happen plenty of times to people. Usually you have to find someone to help you out and retrieve your cleat that’s currently stuck in the mud. The worst part is usually you’ve taken at least one shoeless step into more mud. Cause you figure you’re running so normally your momentum keeps you going and you end up stepping down on that bare foot before you realize your shoe is missing. Sometimes people are able to catch themselves and just hobble/hop around till they get the other cleat back.
One time I did hate the rain though. I was playing catcher and the field was horrible. It had puddles. Well our pitcher kept throwing pitches short. The ball would either hit a puddle or it would hit a nice mud spot and the end result was me getting splashed and splattered with mud. The worst was the one point when some mud actually got in my eye. Now that sucked! Even the umpire felt bad for me with how covered in mud I got. Things got worse though cause I really hadn’t packed anything to change into. I didn’t realize how covered in mud I’d be. Luckily though I had a few things in my car that I was able to use to cover my seat so I didn’t have a mud covered seat. And yes after that I learned to pack towels and even clothes to change into to avoid having a repeat of that. But regardless…it was still a blast. lol And I have so gotten off track on this entry. I went from an ideal rainy day to talking about how much fun it is to play softball in the rain and deal with the mud. Not that I’d say playing softball is my ideal rainy day. It’s just one of the few times where doing something in the rain is a fun time. So my ideal rainy day…staying home and having some good movies/TV shows to watch. A nice lazy day.
