The life of a Techie

Well, my goal in life (career wise) is to be a Stage Manager. I am on my way to making that happen by teching shows at my college and in community theater. I have already been a stage manager once at a local theater and I absolutely loved it.

Right now I am running sound for “An Evening of One Acts” at my college. We open tomorrow night, and all this week we have been in tech rehearsals. They have been extremely exhausting and stressful, but I still love it. My biggest beef comes from our stage manager. He seems to be a really nice guy, but the problem comes with the fact that his girlfriend is also on the crew (running lights) and so he is always… being the boyfriend. They are lovey-dovey up in the booth, and he doesn’t really pay that much attention to the show. The last two nights he has been reading a book in between cues!!!! (for those of you that may not know, this is a bad idea) He was already late giving me one sound cue. I know that it is all on him, but I would like the run to actually go right. Oh well, I guess this is just turning into a venting forum. Oh well. Tomorrow we open and hopefully everything will go ok.
