Where does the time go?

I wish I knew. Seriously, all of a sudden I looked over and it is already 1015 PM. I feel like I just got home, but at the same time, I feel that I have done so much. Yet I really haven’t done anything at all, apparently, because I have a zillion things I still need to do before I go to bed. Let’s just hope that today I remember to set my alarm since last night I forgot. I woke up half an hour late, but thankfully I still made out the door with only a forgotten phone to show for it.

Anyway, this past Thursday we began a massive road trip from Indy down to Fort Walton Beach, FL, to see Travis’s friend Roman get married to his girl Cheryl. It was to be a long ass drive so we left pretty much after work Thursday night. With us was another friend of Travis’s – Tyson. Anyway, that night we made it about to Nashville, so four hours or so, and there we spent the night with yet another friend of Travis’s – Cassandra. It was about midnight when we got ther and we were already plain exhausted…we decided it was easier to crash with her than try and haul it all in one night. That would have put us in Florida sometime around dawn, but not able to check into the hotel until the early afternoon, so we’d have no place to crash or shower. With Cassandra’s place we were able to relax a bit; we came prepared with blankets, pillows, and even an air mattress! Now that’s professional traveling!

So bright and early Friday morning our road trip resumed, taking us through the mostly nothingness that is I-65 through Alabama. I was wondering if that state would ever end, grrr! Not even scenic mountains or anything to make up for it…With some stops and a bit of relaxation along the way, we made it out to Fort Walton just before dinner. After checking in, dinner, we went and explored a while then hung out at B-Dubs with a bunch of the folks that had come down for the wedding…

Saturday was of course – beach! I hadn’t seen the beach in five months, and of course that is five months too many in my book. The weather was gorgeous, as it was all weekend long, clear and sunny and just warm enough to enjoy. Mmmm, how I wish I had this here in Indiana! Not enough sun to get any color though, booo; I am about as pale as I have been in a long time – well as pale as I was last winter, but paler than I am used to still.

Then came the wedding…it was a small, beautiful Catholic service in a chapel on Eglin Air Force base. Roman and Cheryl couldn’t have looked happier either. The reception that followed at the Officer’s club on base was also gorgeous, it was right on the bay with a perfect sunset view and just the right breezes…It was strange but exciting ro realize that Travis and I will be next – in just over two short months it is our turn to take our vows. I know I can’t wait…

Sadly our trip had to come to an end very shortly, and it was Sunday and time to come back before we knew it. Boo Hiss. So began the long haul again, this time on our own since Tyson stayed behind with other people. They all wanted to stay longer, but since we both had to work, we couldn’t stay much longer. As it was, we didn’t get back to Indy until 1130 PM Sunday, and that was just taking the minimal stretch, gas, food, and restroom stops. I felt awful, since Travis was the only one driving, and I had to try really hard not to beat myself up for not having a license. But he did it. Not something I really want to try again anytime soon, but fun nonetheless.

Hard to believe – I used to love massive road trips like that, the longer the better. Has it come to this?

Then yesterday was our two year anniversary! The trip was a side anniversary celebration for us…celebrating two years of happiness and the good grace of God for helping us get this far. Of course, soon November 8th won’t be our anniversary and we will have to count down again from another date. I’ll write more about our anniversary later though, it deserves it’s own entry.

Glad to see your return trip to Florida was fun even though you were in SEMINOLE territory, yuck. And yeah, Alabama is so boring, but I don’t think the alternative of Georgia is much better.
