Suckiness and wonderfulness

Well since it seems that I am in for another long day of nothingness at work, I figured I might as well get my updates written up. I am so caught up right now that basically my only responsibility is making sure the chair is tied down to the earth. Joy wonderful happiness.

It’s a shame I have yet to hear from that job I had interviewed for. Its been exactly two weeks and yet no news. I called today and they are still trying to make some sort of decision, and will let me know. Same old vague crap. This is depressing, because I really wanted this job, and the farther it gets from my interview the less likely I am to get hired. It would mean a significant pay raise and that would be a huge help for Travis and myself. We need to save as much as possible, and my getting this job would give us a lot of leeway. I realize that we are starting off a lot better than many couples, and for that I am thankful, but we still want a security blanket. I will just have to keep trying harder and applying to more places if I don’t hear back from this.

Had a pretty interesting, fun but hectic weekend. I got picked up by Travis’s mom and sister and nephews (you know it’s about time I just start using names here, lol. So Rhonda and Danita, Haden and Braden). On our way back to Kokomo we stopped to look at the shops of the new Clay Terrace outdoor mall, and then to Target. It made the ride back to Kokomo longer, but one it was fun to go shopping and two Travis had to work until late anyway so it didn’t matter. If I had it my way half of Target would be mine anyway, lol. Once in Kokomo there wasn’t much to do, and I ended up going to bed early, since Saturday would be a long day.

Yeah, up at 5:50 AM on the Saturday. Travis had a shoot in Logansport first thing in the morning, and I had to go with since we’d be leaving straight for West Lafayette afterward. We had a bit of a scuffle – Travis couldn’t find his Purdue hat and went off on a tear about it. It was kinda scary; I was trying to help find it and I could see he kept getting madder and madder, and nothing I said would calm him down. It’s so hard seeing him that way because I feel like I can’t do anything for him then. Once we got to Logansport, he went to work and I stayed in the car reading and napping –he didn’t need my help after all, it was cold and rainy and I preferred to stay warm. In between breaks he came back to talk to me, apologized, and things were just fine again. Finally the shoot finished and we were able to head to Purdue.

It was homecoming weekend in West Lafayette, so the first task was to go to all the different places on campus that were giving away freebies to alumni. Score! ESPN’s College Gameday was also on campus for the first time ever, so we also got in on the crowd for one of the update segments later in the afternoon. That was so cool! We stole a random sign and I know that it was on TV, yay! I know we did some shopping and had a stop for a regulatory drink at Harry’s Chocolate Shop, but we didn’t find our tailgating group. Boo hiss. It wasn’t quite as cold as had been forecast (or at least it didn’t feel like it to me), only in the 40s, and thankfully it was overcast but not rainy. The last thing I would have wanted would have been to sit in the cold rain and catch pneumonia.

As for the game itself, I certainly got into it a lot more than I ever have for a Purdue game, which means I have truly adopted the Boilermakers as my second team

(Sidebar, I saw the cutest thing in a store in West Lafayette – you know those shirts that say (University name) and “mom” or “dad” on it? Well this one had “Purdue Wife” on it. Cool!! Unfortunately it was huge on me, so what I am going to do is make it like I did with my old “Those Loud Girls” shirts Katie and I would wear to Miami baseball games: buy a shirt in my size, and then get iron on letters and make it myself. It’ll be soooo awesome! Now all I have to figure out is how to do the same for a shirt for Travis that says “Hurricanes Husband” on it)

Okay so the game….Purdue basically beat themselves – while there were calls made by the refs that could have been more fair, Purdue made a lot of little mistakes. Turnovers and dropped passes, as well as dumb penalties, were probably the most costly. Yes Wisconsin had a fabulous defense, but for Purdue to get shut out for an entire half – that just can’t happen. Purdue’s defense did keep them in the game enough, and by the fourth quarter they had not only come back but also taken the lead. It was then that a last costly turnover gave Wisconsin the lead for good. Purdue’s final chance was a field goal to tie and send the game into overtime, but kicker Ben Jones missed it wide. How’s that for irony? How many times have I rejoiced over a Florida State kick going wide, sending my ‘Canes to victory? And now Purdue loses the same way. To me it felt like a punch to the stomach, so I can only imagine how it felt to Travis.

We were so tired once we got back to Indy around 11PM that we pretty much zonked out and went to sleep. We both needed the good night’s rest too, seeing as how we go sleep deprived most of the week. Sunday we pretty much took it easy, but we went to the Pacers’ Fan Jam at Conseco Fieldhouse. It was a free intersquad scrimmage and festival for Pacers fans. We even got free food! It was crazy and hectic, but once we got settled into our seats – eight rows deep behind center court!! – it was a lot better. Ron Artest got a technical foul – probably the only player who could do so during an exhibition game….and we got to see the rookies sing and dance! At the end, they allowed fans to shoot a free throw for a chance to win tickets to a preseason game, but neither one of us made it. Booo!

So that was pretty much my weekend. As for the rest…my fantasy football team won, and for the second time this season I’ve beaten the number one team in the league, yay! Unfortunately due to scoring the team I beat is still ahead of me, despite having the same record, which I think is highly unfair. Boooo….I got one more thing I needed for my wedding outfit – the bra, lol. It’s a corset type, that would normally retail for at least $80 at David’s Bridal and other wedding apparel stores…but I picked up the same brand on eBay for only $24 shipped. Score! Brand new and everything – can’t beat that. So now all I need is to decide if I will have a veil or not, and a necklace to wear…Still busy in the middle of figuring out when exactly the dates for Vegas will be and where we will stay, but we’ve got time for that.

And some wonderful news…I was told yesterday that my engagement ring has been purchased! Travis called me yesterday at lunch and told me he had just gotten it. It needs to still be sized and all that, so it’s still at the jewelry store. Now begins the test of patience for me that will be the wait until I actually get it; I’ve been teasing Travis that he’s going to give it to me on the 14th of January, the night before we are to get married, hehehe. It’s just a matter of time now. And today when I got back from lunch, Travis had sent me a super sweet poem to go along with the occasion – I may post it tomorrow. It brought happy tears to my eyes, and today I really needed something like that. What a wonderful man I have 🙂
