Breast Cancer

I decided to make my first entry of the year something positive…A lady I know from work is doing a walk for breast cancer and I offered to spread the word about her fundraising. It is obviously for a super great cause, and all of us have been – or will be – touched by breast cancer at some point. So go, support!!

Here is her letter and her information. I have edited to only include the Internet and mail-in address to donate:

Dear Family and Friends ~

For several years I have had a passion for the fight against breast cancer. In 1997, a lump was found in my breast, which was later found benign. However, for other women this has not been the case. In June of 2000, my sister-in-law, Donna Hammel, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

In 2004, Donna took a team of women with her to Arizona to do their first “3 Day-60 Mile Breast Cancer Walk”. She decided to take a team in 2006, and this year persuaded me to go along. The walk is November 10-12 in San Diego. We will be camping in tents for two nights and taking showers in semi trucks.

I am walking in memory of Madeline Craft & Judy Weglarz. In addition to Donna, I am walking in honor of Joan Bechdol, Julie Dyer, Ruth Sawyer, Susan Snell, Dot Voelcker, & Cynthia Wray. These are a select few of the women that have courageously fought the battle of breast cancer and are thankful survivors!

I need to raise $2200 for this cause. Please join me in the fight against breast cancer! Hopefully the walking will be easy, however, asking for dollars is the difficult task for me. But if we are ever going to find answers to incredibly difficult problems like breast cancer, I know I have to ask. Please consider making a fully tax-deductible donation to help me achieve this goal. I would appreciate any amount of donation that you can give.

You can donate on the Internet using your credit or debit card.

To all those that donate to this walk I will contact you again after the walk to share with you my first time experience. Whether you donate or not, I ask that you keep me in thought and prayer as I prepare for this challenge mentally, physically, and spiritually.
