The Bluest Eye…
The Bluest Eye
by
Toni Morrison
Set in the author’s girlhood hometown of Lorain, Ohio, it tells the story of black, eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove. Pecola prays for her eyes to turn blue so that she will be as beautiful and beloved as all the blond, blue-eyed children in America. In the autumn of 1941, the year the marigolds in the Breedloves’ garden do not bloom, Pecola’s life does change – in painful, devastating ways.

"Toni Morrison may be the last classic American writer, squarely in the tradition of Poe, Melville, Twain, and Faulkner." – Newsweek
I had a hard time putting this book down while reading it. It is quite sombre but written so well that it keeps you reading no matter how much pain you feel for the characters while reading it. Highly recommended!! – Punkinpixy

Finally getting to your question about the “calico queen.” Her name is Kowe-Kowe (cow-cow) and we have had her for 6 years now. The vet thought she was about 2 years old when we adopted her. Our local vet takes in the strays so that’s were she came from. Someone at our local McD’s found her in the dead of winter in one of their dumpsters and turned her over to the vet. She was one frightened and nervous cat for quite a while, but she came around with lots of TLC. She now runs the household and lets our other animals know that she is the BOSS. 🙂
