Debt Management…

Soooo…

I tried really hard to keep afloat even though…

  • Hubby working with a hernia because he can’t afford time off for surgery (owns his own business).
  • Oldest son in College (trying to make a better life for himself then we did)
  • Paying Rent on a home we can’t afford (just so youngest son can go to a better public school)
  • Paying up the wazoo in dental care because me and my kids were blessed with hereditary bad teeth.
  • Etc… Etc…

I finally came to terms with the fact I can no longer live off of my credit cards so I signed up with a Debt Management Company. I’ve never missed a payment and have always paid over the minimum amount so I figured now would be a good time before things get worse. The arrangement will help me out immensely and the first payment just went out…. now…. I’m starting to hear back from each of my creditors to see if they will accept the terms or not. Well…. I found out yesterday my largest creditor had denied me and the reason?… I’m paying a debt management company instead of a using a free service. Holy Crap! I FREAKED OUT!! Got all pissed off and ranted and raved about it.

Today however…

I called my Debt Management company and I was very impressed with myself that I did not get upset. I was actually quite calm… They explained to me the problem and I’ve accepted it. The creditor that denied me did take the payment so at least I’m not behind which is why I freaked out to begin with. I can deal.

Tonight… I spent some time rearranging my payments and figured I can do this. It means having NO extra money whatsoever but hey… even though I get freaked out sometimes I can understand that…actually??? I’m doing pretty darn good. There are sooo many others out there that don’t have a job, a home, health care, etc. Who am I to complain? So if we have to eat hot dogs and hamburger helper… at least it’s food and we have a roof over our heads, our health and oh yeah…. a J O B!

My hubby and I started out living in his car so I have to remember how far we’ve come. I have to remember that we are fighters! We are survivors!

One of the biggest compliments I ever received was from an old friend I’d not talked to in a long time. He told me when we got together…

"Even though I don’t hear from you for long lengths at a time… I have no concerns… I know that even if you were stranded in the middle of the desert in Africa you would be… Just Fine!"
