yesterday’s project *edit!*

although I didn’t accomplish a lot yesterday, I did accomplish something:

I picked this unit up last time I was Ikea (at the end of December). I bought the smaller one to give it a try before making the decision to get the bigger one. Honestly, this is pretty narrow so won’t hold the boxes I had in mind.

However, given the state of my basement, I’m confident I’ll be able to fill it up!

Normally, I don’t brace things to the wall, even when I’m instructed to do so. But this time, I did:

… because, although I did level it one way before I attached the stabelizer bar, I didn’t check the other way … and it wasn’t until I tried to stand it up against the wall that I realized just how off kilter the thing was (and there was no way I was pulling it out of that tight spot to fix it! The picture doesn’t show how I had to wrangle it past the furnace and pipes and all sorts of impedements.)

This gives an idea of just how crooked the finished product turned out:

I need to get some little bits of wood to replace the paper. I don’t think the paper will maintain it’s integrity over time.

Today I intend to do more good stuff.

But I don’t think my drill will be needed.

I do love that drill! I’m very happy it came with the 100 little bits and pieces. If I had just bought a drill without all the extras, it would not have been nearly as useful yesterday (like … not at all!)

* I WISH YOU WELL! *

*edit* it actually holds more than I expected!! And there is another shelf that didn’t make the picture. Not bad!

I figure I’ll get a couple of the larger ones and I’ll be able to get Lara’s stuff packed and stored … and finally get the basement a bit more organized.

Amazing how accomplishing one little thing is so motivating!

When I was talking to Lara last night, she told me that one option she’s considered lately is moving back home. She really is discouraged and stressed. I feel bad for her …

If both she and Erin come home, my little townhouse may potentially be stuffed with:

* 5 adult humans (one of whom is a very serious snorer (Lara’s boyfriend): me, Lara and Dan, Erin and Dave

* 2 adult dogs: Moodie, 20 lb daschapoo (current resident) and Jelly, 60 lb basset hound (would come with Lara and Dan)

* 4 cats – 2 adults: Little One and Buddy Boy (current residents) … and 2 adolescents Heisenberg and Mistique (would come with Erin and Dave)

* 1 bunny: Bunny (would come with Erin and Dave)

Yup. That would be a full house indeed.

Very nice. If that was in my basement it wouldn’t have spent any time at all empty!! My basement looks like a scene from Hoarders only everything is in tubs and boxes.

Yes, that would be a full house!!! I like your shelf. The lean adds character 😉

OMG! FULL HOUSE! as for the shelves, no house has true right angles. it may be the house and not your construction.

I agree with oulin. Poured concrete floors are especially likely to be unlevel.
