I’m listening …

When the kids were home, I mentioned to Will that I’ve started to listen to audiobooks. The concept was recommended in my book on procrastination (the one that I had postponed reading for over 5 years! No, I haven’t finished reading it yet. Sigh). When you have a major, mindless and daunting project, put on an audiobook. You can focus on that and just plug away at your chore and the time will pass faster.

So, I tried it when I was working in the basement. (I have made headway down there but, alas, I haven’t finished the job yet. Sigh). It made a huge difference. The time goes much faster and I get to listen to a story.

My choices haven’t all been good … I’m actually deliberately NOT choosing any deep thought provoking literature. That way, I can listen with half an ear and not worry that I’m going to miss a key passage, but I have enjoyed the stories and appreciate that I can putter about and get some things done while ‘reading’.

(I’m just talking about this now because I’m downloading a new book from the library and it takes a few minutes)

William told me that was ‘cheating’. Perhaps.

oops. My book is ready. Must transfer it to my ipod and the get to my chores.

* I WISH YOU WELL! *

How is it cheating?? Just because you are using a different sense to take in the information?? You’re still GETTING the information. If that’s cheating, then so is watching the news instead of reading it. I think audio books are good. I like them for my drives to and from work sometimes, since I have a 35 minute drive.

oh, if you can get them, Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas books are very good. I don’t think they’re tooooo thought provoking, but maybe a little. They aren’t fluff.

Your public library system probably offers access to audiobooks for free. You often have to wait in the queue for these, and you have only so many days to listen to them (3 weeks in our system), but it saves buying them. I can use our province’s digital system from my computer, and I am a very good customer for audiobooks and ebooks 🙂
