Every little thing counts! 3rd entry

An interesting thing happened to me the other day.  I have been sick.  I am feeling better now that I am medicated.  I thought I had a cold but it was tonsilitis.  Anyways I was really groggy and worn out but I was determined to join my mother in law, and my hubby and son for a shopping trip.

I had Nate stop at the gas station so he could get a rock star and Kyle a bug juice.  Adjacent to the gas station is a McDonald’s and I figured I would get an iced mocha.  I was so groggy from the meds and really needed something to pick me up.  As I walked up to the register, a woman in back looked up smiling brightly and says, "Hi! Excuse me I am in the middle of this, but I will be right with you!"  Her smile and cheerful greeting was a pleasant surprise.  How many times have I walked up to a a cashier in a store or fast food place and get ignored until they are done.  It really annoys me when they won’t even make eye contact and keep doing their thing.  I sure didn’t mind waiting since she ACKNOWLEDGED me!

When she came up to the register I thanked her for greeting me.  I let her know how much I appreciated it.  She smiled real big.  I could tell I made her day.  Then she paid for my mocha!

I appreciated that a lot!  I walked off thanking her and smiling real big and already feeling better about the day ahead.

This simple gesture reminded me of something I did for someone a few weeks ago.  It was in the evening at the grocery store.  The store was busy and the lines were long.  This one store only recently started to accept debit cards but still can’t accept credit cards but they have some great deals on things.

There was a man in front of me with a hand full of items.  He had some fruits and some teas.  His leg looked like he had recently had surgery on it and was limping along.  When it was time to pay he didn’t have any cash or debit cards or a check.  He didn’t know they don’t accept credit.

Dejected he apologized and started to walk away.  I asked what his total was and hollered for him to stop.  It was just over $6.00 and I figured I would pay for it for him.  He was shocked and told me he couldn’t pay me back.  I told him that was fine!  The cashier suggested that he pay for someone’s elses groceries the next time he was in the store.  He smiled and said he would.  He couldn’t stop thanking me and even had a bit of a blush but was smiling as he left.

I felt so good afterwards seeing how appreciative he was.

It is interesting how something so small to say or do helps someone and lifts them up.  I love making others smile and love it when someone does the same for me.

If anything, I hope people read this and try to do the same for others!
