These tears are for those in the Limelight. These tears are because of the harsh scrutiny we put them under. My heart breaks thinking of those we have lost due to suicide because the pressure was too much and for those whom were killed by obsessed fans. I struggle to find the words to truly express the pangs in my heart for those struggling with drugs and alcohol because they have not learned how to cope with the strain put on them for being in the public eye. I cry for the starlet who starves herself and hurts herself just to be able to feel alive and real. Is there really a door for them to close and hide behind to pretend the world is oblivious of their personal demons?
Controversies arise from rumors becoming viral across the internet and media. Weaknesses are exploited and used to hurt and demean someone because they are gifted and in the public eye. We offer no consideration for their private lives but force them to be like caged animals in a zoo to be scrutinized and observed. No mercy is offered for failures or insecurities. What have we become? A generation of gawkers, reveling in others pain.
Then again, aren’t we causing them some of this pain?
Perhaps since I grew up around the entertainment business, that I have been able to take a step back to look at things through their perspective. The things I witnessed kept me from following my dream of singing. The pressure to be perfect and without fault scared me away. That is after all what the world expects of a celebrity. Isn’t it?
Why is someone’s change in weight something to be tracked in the news? We complain how thin someone is and yet a woman whom is a size 6 is called fat and made fun of in the news. This is sickening. The Perez HIlton’s, TMZ’s and gossip columnists find fame from hurting others and invading in their privacy. They lack any consideration or compassion for those they hurt. And they won’t not as long as people keep going to their websites and buying their magazines.<span style
=””> They are a plague that can only be stopped if we stop reading them.
Ever wonder why a celebrity is seen wearing glasses even in the dead of night? Have you ever considered that they have a half a dozen or so camera’s with bright flashes all pointed at them? Can you imagine trying to see where you are going and the headache you would get?
Wouldn’t you get frustrated by being followed even to the grocery store? How would you like to be trapped in your own home and wondering if you can truly trust those around you? Can you imagine second guessing any new friends, wondering if they only want to use you for your fame and money and then exploit you?
I ask you to take a good hard look at your own life. Remember the things you regret and are embarrassed by. Remember the times you did something without even thinking and wished no one knew about it. I bet they are some of the same things the media exploits celebrities for. Now how would it make you feel if the world was made privy to your private life and your mistakes.
Can you understand why they get frustrated and get angry? Some of the crazy outbursts on the paparazzi make a lot more sense now. Be honest, it does make more sense as to why some react harshly or twitter and blog their frustrations. I am not condoning actions, I am asking for you to try to understand that celebrities and public figures are human. Yes human, just like you and me. We are not perfect, nor will we ever be while we are here on earth.
We must stop gawking and encouraging those whom publicize others pain and make fame and fortunate off of it. There needs to be more compassion and understanding and it can start with you.
I completely agree.
