Quick version of the events and a few pics!
Ok, so here is a quick version of Gavin’s entrance into the world. First off, my baby shower was on Saturday. It was nice having everyone here and we got a lot of stuff that we needed. Sunday morning my brother and sister-in-law and dad all left for home and I had a drs appt at the hospital to monitor my blood pressure and the baby’s heart beat. While I was on the monitor the baby had a few decels in his heart rate so they decided to keep me overnight to make sure everything was ok. I had been having contractions on the monitor but they weren’t very strong and they weren’t regular so they weren’t worried about it. At about midnight I had a tiny bit of dark bleeding. I asked the nurse about and she said "oh, it’s probably just your mucus plug. It could be a week or more before you even start to go into labor." At 4am I had some heavier bleeding so the nurse checked me and I was already 3 cm dialated. She still wasn’t convinced I was in labor because I hadn’t really been checked in a few weeks so I could have been dialated the whole time. I called Ben anyways since he had gone home because he had been planning on going to work that day. Him and my mom got to the hospital about about 5:30am. I started feeling a little uncomfortable and all of a sudden my water broke at 6am. The nurse called the doctor and by the time he got there at like 9am and checked me I was at about 4cm. There was a tiny bit of water sac left so he broke that and then we left and the nurse said she’d check me in a few hours. About a half an hour later all of a sudden the baby’s heart rate plummeted. Like 5 nurses rushed in and had me lay in different positions and finally when they put me up on my hands and knees with oxygen the baby’s heart rate started to recover. They checked me again and I was fully dialated and the baby’s head was right there. They were worried about his heart rate so they rushed me into the OR to prep me for a C-section. On the way to the room I couldn’t stop myself from pushing. I should also mention that since it happened so fast, I got NO pain medicine. They wouldn’t even give me anything in my IV because of the baby’s heart rate having problems. By the time I got to the OR and they had me up on the table the baby’s head was almost out and the doctor decided to just let me push him out since it was going so fast. Two pushes later and Gavin was born at 11:12 am. They gave him some help breathing since his lungs weren’t quite mature and he was on a feeding tube for a few days, but other than that, he’s been doing good! I’m still having a ton of problems with my blood pressure. In fact they kept me an extra two nights in the hospital because they couldn’t get it under control at all. I was released on Friday and Gavin came home on Saturday. I’ll get into all my health problems at another time. Let’s just say I’m still fighting with it and feeling pretty terrible. I’ll also get into how we’re adjusting some other time. For now, I need to go take a nap since Gavin is and I have an appt with an internist this afternoon. One more thing I’ll say is that I am soooooo glad my mom is here. I don’t know that I’d be getting by without her here right now.
Gavin in the hospital
I love this face… he’s like "whatcha doin’?"
They finally let me up to go to the nursery to feed him.
going home! We had to go out and buy a new car seat rated 4-22lbs because they wouldn’t discharge him in the one we had because he was smaller than 5 lbs.
Gavin at one week. 🙂
